Info Centre Repair.

A quick how to if you wish to repair your info centre display.

All you need is a screwdriver and a soldering iron.

There are at least two designs. Some as per these instructions are hardwired to the display and connected to the info switch others are hardwired to the switch and connected to the display, so you may have to adapt these instructions if you have a different design.

Once you have removed the display from the dash unscrew the 3 screws marked.

Gently pull the white cover straight back. Depending on design and how the cable goes through the hole at the bottom the board underneath may need pulling off separately (picture 1) or it may come with it (picture 2) just keep an eye on the connector at the top (pink arrows) you do not want to bend the pins.

Now unscrew all the red screws and unplug the green arrowed connector then gently pull the whole board straight back, it may need a slight wiggle but watch you don’t bend the blue arrowed pins.

Turn the board over and check the solder pictured. As you can see the arrowd joint is cracked (as well as most of the others) and needed soldering.

All pins freshly soldered.

While you are at it check the halogen bulb connector mine was corroded causing the bulb to be intermittent.

Reassembly is the reverse just be careful with the pins and connectors.

If after this your unit still does not work as it should it will need a holiday overseas. ;)

Excellent repair manual!!! In fact, most of this is what happens if you sent an instrument cluster on a holiday overseas.

For soldering, please folks, use a small soldering iron! In fact, I sometimes use a battery powered soldering iron, bought at Lidl for a tenner, and it works great! Also use 60/40 tin/lead rosin core solder only, don't use the "RoHS" lead-free stuff.

For cleaning the halogen bulb contacts I use a fibre glass pencil brush, like one of these:

Alternatively, you can use an old toothbrush and some windscreen winter washer fluid (which contains isopropyl alcohol)
