I'm guessing there are no problems with the boxes in renaults, because Volvo upgraded the components to phosphor-bronze in 1989 from renaults lower spec.

The thing is that when Volvo upgraded the parts most gear oils would have been ok. It's the later extreme presure lubricant addatives that have caused the problems.

On the plus side the gearboxes don't have so many parts made of toffee.

I think the gearboxes of the more powerfull Renaults (16v's, TD) they used also the modified gearbox. JC5 vs JB3
Anyway Renault people do use a lot of transELF TRX 75/80W oil, not cheap either (18 euro/l). For racing 75/140W is recommended.

I waited until it was finished to do this. Its finished now.

Car still needs work, but not conversion work. Its perfectly roadworthy though, new brakes, new clutch, hundreds of pounds! Mot next weekend!

Hope you found this interesting, at least a little. I'll likely still add some bits as i sort dents etc.

For the record,

EVU is now the happy owner of magnecore leads, lumention coil and longlife stainless steel backbox from vader.

Also kinda named her "TESS". I'll leave it to you to figure that one out...hehe.

You do know evil can be transmitted by parts. I’m sure the problems Mart had with his Scooby at the meet was due to the fact that he still had Vader’s key on his keyring

Saying that I have Vader’s wheels on my 440 :scared:
