Everyone loves blue engine parts!!

Today i bought a can of black smooth hammerite and did the bits of the front panel/enginebay/chassis that i primed before.

Then i went and bought some alloys, the cat says tsw hockenheim clones. Great, except one wheel doesn't fit. (multistud fitment, all fit 4 stud ford, only 3 fit volvo, 1 fits late mondeo). I'm gonna refurb em and ebay them to a ford owner. The tyres are new, and i'm keeping them for my new wolfrace octane (http://tuning.fosgate.ee/catalog/images ... tane_b.jpg). Catgrrom thinks these are gay. I like them though. Dishylicious.

Here are the tsw rippoffs...looked better in the flesh. Put em on fcw just to see if they'd rub...they wouldn't.

Image

Next I made the old type mount fit a new subframe. - Not my original plan, but my hands are tied if i want the engine in this weekend. (i do!!)

Painted a wishbone...

then another one, a new(er) one to replace my bent one.. This was kindly donated by Loki. thanks man!

All ready now for tomorrow when i hope to get it back together a bit.

JT, i think i have those wolfrace wheels in 17 on my MR2. black with a polished lip and have toyo proxes on them.
I was thinking of getting some lightweight jap 16's for it so if you fancy them we could come to some sort of arrangement!

Nice one murf...i've already bought a set though, in silver...but those are the ones. Black wheels on a black car are a bit much!

what did you get 17's??
I think the 16's on my 480 are a good compromise, 17's are a bit too big!

17s, yeah. They are a bit big, i'd possibly go for 16s too...but theres too few around to get them easily in a design and fitment you like. Of course with that big chunky lip, the wolfrace wheels look a bit smaller, so should look fine.

Well well...been at it all day today. Not much photographically however. A quick rundown would envolve connecting steering, connecting gear linkage, gearbox gators...thena whole load of fun with wiring. Lots of snipping of connectors, soldering etc.

I'm left with one question....i've found wiring for everything except this....

Image

Some kind of temp sensor...what is it for?? Martin thinks IC...he may well be right, but why is ther no wiring for it off black loom in that case?

Anyway, in other news...my engine runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Behold the blurry aux belt of victory!!

Its a good feeling i tell thee!!

That sensor is for the aux water pump, it is wired in parallel with the one in the coolant line from the turbo (if present)

If thats where your fuel return is staying, get some heatshielding round it.

Ahh yes, That makes sence...which is why the aux pump currently runs for a minute...if it were hotter it'd need that sensor to control it.

I'll have a look at it. Only other issue is my oil temp isn't working...car tells me to "STOP". Could it be because i've not swapped the infocentre?

Anyway, a bit more assembled now....running sweet :)

Maybe it says that cos it can't get the correct oil level. It thinks there is no oil in motor. At least my ES tells me when to add oil :)

RIGHT!!!!! Not bored you folk with an update for a while, but basically been tinkering. Sensor issue was a broken wire to the infocentre's engine temp sensor, thats now fixed.

Lots of other bits and pieces i can't even remember. New exhaust on, brakes on, wheels sorted (currently on FCW).

Heres one of the brakes...yeah baby!! We all love paint!!

Image

- What chris said about the paint declining towards the end...not the case with me, i've driven the car as a 2.0l, i drove the car the engine came from, and i have a turbo...so no great rush!

Right, now i had a broken fixed focus.. (still do...this is a temporary fix...clear siliconed on a piece of lexan.

Image

The afore mentioned rims....

YEah, so...front back on tomorrow...i'm gearoil short of running her round the block then.

Good to see the project nearing it's end. If I remember from Chris/Edd's attempts at this, it would be a good idea to carry some water for the first trip. It's easy to forget one jubalee clip.

Also keep an eye on the turbo oil return pipe. It's easy to damage the little hose when fitting the engine mount and heat shields. Also overtightening the hose clips will cause it to split.

Hope you don't have these problems, but just to let you know of the more common ones.

You probably have a very good point there. First signs look good though, its not leaking anything at the moment! I think air leaks are the most likely problem.

I have another query...does the charcoal canister have something plugged into that plug? I can't find a connector for it, on any of the looms from either car...but there is a socket.

Found the plug for the charcoal canister. :)

Today's update, well...has been a day of rebuilding. All the wiring is clipped back, and tied to its intended anchor points, bumper reassembled, and reinstalled with stainles steel nuts....(always a good plan)

Image

This shows my engine bay...reinstalled the airbox, newly painted battery tray (5 layers!!). Car is actually running in this picture too.

Image

Next up, fitted my lip spoiler. This is still propery of Lee. He shall be payed however. Oh yes. Fitted with brass screws. No expense spared. 'repaired' foglight also in shot.
