Update! 11/07/25
It's been nearly a year since my last personal thread update, so here's what's happened (well, as much as I can remember, anyway!)
- New heater knobs (thanks Jifflemon)
- Ripped out sagging headliner, spray painted the headliner board with black paint and it looks better than it has done in a long while
- Binned the green 'EV' plates and stuck the originals back on. Not sure what I was thinking there but they looked awful

- Sourced a few OEM rare accessories such as the 15'' Ronal diamond cut alloys (to be refurbished), reproduction pollen filter (WR Composites), EQ-611 Volvo equalizer (not yet fitted) and the legendarily flimsy plastic boot liner tray!
It's really just been two years of trouble free motoring, really. Aside from basic preventative maintenance, servicing and rust prevention, the only thing that occurred in that time was the failure of my driver's side window regulator, which I promptly replaced. I still have yet to fit a new clutch as well as try out the Citroen C5 engine mount 'fix' for myself. If all goes to plan, that will all be done by the end of the summer.
I finally retired the 480 as my daily driver in November with my second ever car, my 2000 Audi A4 B5 1.8 which has been an absolute trooper. I'd be lying if I said the ownership experience so far has been trouble-free (its still a 25 year old Audi) but it's never let me down and repair and maintenance costs haven't been silly money either, which is nice.
I say 'retired as a daily driver' as I'll still be taking the Volvo to shows, meets as well as nice summer days. It's days as a winter runabout are (thankfully) over.
Sometimes the cheapest fix can be one you are most proud of. £10 rattle can spray and about 2 hours of larking about re-fitting the headliner trim
Posted from Germany! Set of rare, slightly corroded Ronal alloys as seen in the accessories list for the Volvo 480. Will get these refurbed before I put tyres on them.

In other news, a recent new arrival and my latest purchase - My new to me 2000 Audi A6 C5 2.5 TDI Avant Quattro Sport!
I had been longing for an estate car for a while now after finding the practicality limitations of a saloon with no folding back seats and decided to go car hunting! Exciting, I thought. I'd always quite liked the idea of a super quick Saab 9-5 Aero estate, but after driving a couple of them I found the interior quality and materials to be very disappointing, and aside from straight line acceleration, the drive was underwhelmingly numb. (Apologies to the 9-5 lovers on here!) I then went to see a W210 E-Class estate with a tasty 4.3 V8, but quickly walked away after discovering the bodywork was effectively made from cheese and that I could poke my finger through the strut tower. It was a lovely drive, though.
Then I saw this for sale online. It had been in dry storage in a private collection for the past 11 years and has had a huge amount of work done to it to get it back on the road, including a full major service, new shocks, suspension links, brakes all round, new front wings, refurbed wheels from an Audi TT as well as lots of other small bit and pieces. I've always loved the look of the C5 A6 generation and I'm glad I've managed to get a nice one as they're getting quite scarce now.
The paint is in exceptional condition and so is the bodywork and interior. I'm over the moon with it, especially as I didn't have to pay much for it at all due to the lack of desirability these cars still sadly have on the used market.
That being said, on the drive home from picking it up the thermostat decided to stick open. Turns out to replace it you need to remove the front of the car and take off the timing belt and pulleys. The price to do it all? £530
