Stony Classic 2024 done!



Ended up post event getting some lunch and have a conversation with a chap who simply couldn't believe the car was a) 34 years old and b) a Volvo.

He spent a good 20 minutes walking around it, taking photos and asking questions etc.

12 months on, its time for this:



I know some people are fans of a "advisory free" MOT - I honestly don't pay too much attention. Last year the advisory was the rear pads were low. I haven't changed them, yet now they're fine. The oil leak? When I asked where it was coming from, he replied "couldn't really tell, the undertray was in the way". There's no undertray fitted at the moment......

A whopping 670 miles this year....

On the to do list:
Oil change
New front speakers
Sort that NS headlamp cover alignment out
Align the driving lamps to be actually useful
Fuel filter
Find time to drive it more.....

I got advisory for 'brake lines covered in grease, or similar', I guess I'll have to bite the bullet this summer and do the main front to rear, all the front ones that cross the 'down, across, up etc around tunnel' have been done, these are all now horizontally behind the heat shield, ruddy tricky though around the servo
The rear(s) have been done prior to me buying it which is a bonus as they are hidden at edge of tank

Something that wasn't on the list, that got ticked off today.

Wasn't particularly bad, but the change has definitely made the pump less whiney, especially on full lock.

and managed to take a couple of nice shots whilst at the workshop - although 20 minutes later, we had full on hailstone!

Yes, I'm embracing the cassette life; I may add some bluetooth or CD changer later, but for now, Cassettes are rocking!

Very much approve of a pointless original Volvo accessory!

As much as I love OEM accessory tat, I ended up removing mine as that cubby is better at storing my phone, rather than 5 of my finest non-existent cassettes!

Phone goes in centre armrest, away from temptation (and 3 penalty points)

Load up those cassettes, there's something rather nostalgic about listening to tapes in the car!

Was there a choice of cassette holders as I remember one with an LCD for outside temp.... even though the Info Centre has an outside temp (?) - or am I getting confused with something else?

There was! The sensor read internal temp, whilst the infocentre does outside temp. EVERYONE needs to know that right??
I'm actually thinking of drilling the unobtainium ( ) to add a USB charger to the cubby hole.

There was! The sensor read internal temp, whilst the infocentre does outside temp. EVERYONE needs to know that right??

The LCD-type Cassette holder that Jay-Kay-Em is talking about is an external temperature readout, not an internal one. The sensor for it sits in the exact spot the Info-centre one goes (behind the grille badge). I assume this was so that people could be aware of potentially icy conditions outside without needing the expensive Info-centre option. I'm sure you can easily adapt it to read internal temp by fitting the sensor somewhere in the cabin instead, though.

Description of the LCD Cassette holder from a 1992 accessory brochure:

"Ambient temperature gauge reduces the risk of being overtaken by unpleasant surprises. The digital display shows the temperature just above the road surface and a warning lamp comes on at temperature at which there is a risk of black ice. Combined with a digital clock (850) or cassette holder (440, 460 and 480)."

I have one of the cassette holders with temp in R3, not bothered to wire it up yet, I also have the sensor required, just pops into a spare hole behind the bumper, they would be used in the 480 presumably for cars with out an info centre, most likely the S or 440/460, although a few 480 S, had info centre.

Wowowow! Where on earth did you find the cassette slide in storage solution? That is the most beautiful thing I've seen!

Like most unobtainium, it’s about knowing someone who knows someone…. Although….

Managed to find a set of rear mudflaps - no fronts, but it's a start!



as well as some rubber floor mats (which needed a clean)





Also, new classic policy is no longer mileage restricted! So he's been getting used an whole lot more! (hence wanted some mats to keep the floor clean!)
