Oh come on, they’re obviously NLA!

Coil overs are available (very expensive), my worry would be that the bearing would be on the strut top, not the spring pan.
ah, suspicions confirmed :-(
I knew coil over were 'nae cheap', but as long as thrust bearing DOES exist then all is OK? were there bearings on the Mk2 Cortina version?

I considered 'alternative' struts but you'd need a friendly motor factors to compare them with, ie set a Volvo one and find a version that has similar distance from hub to clear the disc etc and similar mounting at bottom end, surely lots of other cars of similar vintage used a 'two bolt clamp'?

in the mean time I'm washing mine with garden plant watering attachment each time car is washed :D

Great news, I am happy to report that my 480 passed MOT this morning with just one advisory "corrosion under side vehicle in places". We'll have that sorted soon, hopefully along with the high idle speed. I was certain that it would fail on the emissions or the idle speed being too high, especially as it was at a Halfords auto centre which I know don't have a great reputation with most, but our local one has been very good with our other car over the last few years so thought I'd give them a go.
I am relieved that all our hard work has paid off and it's back on the road (just in time for the tax renewal, £270 oof!). Even the MOT tester complimented me on the work we had done and said he hopes to see it next year for another pass.
So, total spent so far is about £550 including delivery of some parts from Europe.

Next up, service and cambelt change.
