I've been talking to an enthusiast in Eire (David L) who is looking for his next 480. Due to hefty import taxes on cars less than 30 years old, he wants a pre 1991 model. Up for consideration was R1 or possibly R5 (the black turbo) which is Jan 91. Condition decided R1 was the best option for him if he went for a rescue car. We've looked at others that have come onto the market but there hasn't been anything that would come close to R1 so he has been patiently waiting.
Now Jeff has finally managed to get a week's holiday booked, the plan is for him to blitz R1.
Naturally David had concerns about a 5 hour drive back to the Welsh ferry port in a car that has been off the road for a number of years but trailering was massively expensive. With the best will in the world, things can easily get missed and a run to and from the mot station is hardly a thorough road test.
It just so happens that Al and I had to cancel a holiday in Wales booked for June last year thanks to lockdown. I expect you can all see where this is going......
