is the history lost each time a car is sold?
There is only the "certificat de situation administrative" (administrative status certificate). It is a certificate of no pledge against the vehicle, of no opposition about the vehicle registration document (e.g.if stolen), and if the car is officially registered as crashed and not roadworthy.

That's why French cars sold with all the documents, maintenance books, etc are the most sought-after.
Thanks, that's really interesting! Who would have thought that wikipedia was wrong when it said it was no longer necessary?

Whenever I am in France I always get very excited at seeing a car that retains its original plate (yes I am that sad)

Have you tried to start your car yet? I wish you the very best of luck with it and I hope I can help in some way

This is one of the nicest places on the internet, glad to have you on board!
