How come my numbers through a spanner in the works? They all seem to follow unless I'm missing something?

Because your 108, on chassis number 592653, comes before my previous Celebration no 73, but she had a later chassis number 592758... :( :D

Do you know when yours was first registered?

Was great meeting you too!

Morwenna was registered 1st August - I wonder if what we are seeing here was a first batch of cars delivered to the UK for the launch of the Celebration - 100 or so - whereby their plaque numbers were issued by date of registration but their chassis numbers are, effectively, all mixed up (perhaps due to colours, bearing in mind 73 was red and 108 is grey?

Then demand settled down (remember that the 1st August plate change date was always a big event) and for later examples they settle far more neatly into a rough parallel between plaque numbers and chassis numbers, probably coming into the country more individually as they were ordered?

Hmm...

And next time you come over we will definitely get some photos!!

Thanks to Sylvia who has launched herself wholeheartedly into the question of Celebration numbers, and Andrew who had a spare plaque from a scrapped car, I have now been able to give Nora a number - 346/480 :D .

OK, the purists among you may shudder, and certainly I'd still like to find out what her actual number was, but I miss the little Celebration plaque on the dashboard: she doesn't seem right without it. And since the original 346 has now gone to the big Volvo garage in the sky, there seems no harm in Nora picking up a spare number...

Well, it keeps me happy, anyway

More progress on Nora - she now has some nice, good condition Cetus wheels, plus original DC964 stereo, courtesy of Richard in Stockton and the Celeb he is sadly breaking. Work is now underway tidying up the wheel arches :D

Will get some more photos up in the next couple of days!

Alan - you have a PM...

I have been quietly making progress with Nora, and she is almost ready to be put up for sale. I know that has always been the plan but I have put so much time and effort into her that when the time comes I shall be sad to see her go... :(

There are a couple of minor bits to finish off then that'll be as far as I will be taking her - she is by no means perfect but, particularly considering how she was when I got her, I think she's a very good example (ok, so I am biased  )

Before the weather broke this has been a weekend of washing, polishing and all sorts of cleaning, so I thought a few gratuitous pictures were in order:

Wow David you have done a great job with her. When I came over about a month ago I said I thought you had a bit of gem that just needed a polish and looks like I was right, well done see you Saturday

David, she looks fabulous! I remember being impressed (and jealous!) when you came over to Lancs in her just after you'd acquired her, but now she is a work of art!

I will use Nora as my benchmark when working towards getting my own (similar age but nowhere near similar condition) car back on the road. Sadly this won't be in time to take part in the coming weekend's events, although other challenges would have precluded coming along anyway as it turns out... :(

Loved the photos!

All the best!

Martin

Great looking car. Will make someone a great useable classic.

Hate to think what might of become of it if you hadn't taken it on.

Have you still got your C70 also?

Thanks Martin, much appreciated. :D

Looking at the photos, if I was going to be really fussy I'd put new number plates on her, but I think they can be someone else's problem...

Sorry we won't see you on Saturday but perhaps we can catch up soon anyway?

Take care

David

Yes, I have the C70 Collection and a V60 D5 SE Lux Nav as the "family car" - hence 2 480's is one too many (I am regularly reminded...!)

As for Nora, if I hadn't rescued her, eBay for parts and then scrap, I reckon...

All the best
