The Current State II – The Rust Strikes Back

Post by eye of ra » Sat Mar 24, 2018 9:42 am

Well I have my second 480. In an ideal world it would have been a Turbo Auto with air con or a Celeb Auto, with a new MOT that I could bring to the next meet and be my daily car.

It is an Auto so one box ticked. However it’s not a Turbo or a Celeb, doesn’t have air con and the MOT ran out a couple of days after I got it and won’t pass a new one.

I can’t complain though it was sold as a spares car and priced as such, in fact in my opinion less than a spares car.

My plan at the moment is to use some of it as a spares car. I can now put the original orange indicators back on my first car and at first glance the bumpers and plastic dash surround are in a better condition.

Hopefully everything I use will be a swop and once my first car is complete I will be able to put this back on the road.

Pictures and condition report to follow once I've had a better look at the car.

480 Celebration 187

If your current indicators are clear, you could probably sell them for what you paid for the spares car!

Probably could, however the clear ones will IMHO look far better on smoked silver than the orange and white looks ok with either colour.

And if I can’t save this one I’ll keep them for the next one.

Initial look over has revealed the following. Can’t look underneath till I can get it in the garage.

Good.
Info centre works, but only just visible.
Idle seams ok.
Cloth seats in generally good condition.
Rear speakers.
Door pockets intact.
Sunroof works (providing it’s only supposed to tilt and not go back).
Windows work.
Electric mirrors work, but only one heats.
Passenger heated seat works.
Popup motors work but one only raises to half way then stays up till manually raised/lowered then returns to half way up when bonnet closed.
Dash surround only a small crack one side and no bits missing.

Bad.
No radio, so don’t know if speakers work.
Both seatbelt extenders snapped.
Windscreen cracked.
Rev counter pealing.
Swimming pool in boot and rear footwell.
Roof lining sagging at the back.
Rear wiper erratic.
Front DRL lenses need replacing.
LH rear light faded and cracked.
RH rear light faded but jury still out, not badly cracked but too faded to see properly.
Rust on rear arches and doors.

At the moment can’t see why it can’t be saved but till I look underneath and see how much further the rust goes don’t know for sure.
