Company 3d printing the sunroof struts is called Shapeways - website is all in German. They also do the plastic brackets that the headlamps swivel on, the front seatbelt arms, 'press' seatbelt release button and seatbelt rollers as well as the infamous cogs for the speedos.

Hi Ade, Not yet, Al hasn't had a chance to look, he's currently more concerned about propping up a door lintel that isn't as wide as it should have been and supporting the brick wall above it while he changes it for a longer one :(
It happened once on the way home, but we've been out in her again today and no problem at all. She's due to go into hibernation at the end of the month :bored: so it might even go on her 'to do' list for the spring. (Now we've got 5 cars everything has to go on a list otherwise I lose track of it all)

Al finally got to the cars today. He cleaned up the battery terminals and connections on the 3 earth leads he found on Lily, earth strap looked fine. She now fires up much quicker than before, but I have yet to take her on a run to see if the power loss problem has also gone. He couldn't find an earth from the engine - is it accessible without a ramp ?

Earth strap from battery runs down to inside of the wing and then on down to the gearbox - as far as I know that is the engine earth. Accessible easily enough if you remove either the air filter housing or the battery and battery tray (or both...)

Hopefully, if cleaning and tightening has helped then the power loss problem might be solved as well - keep us posted!

We're off on our travels again - sadly in the 850, a 480 would have been much more fun.
1st Norfolk drop the cat at 'pussy Pontins' (no rude comments thank you)
2nd Norfolk collect some slate slabs we've had cut for the house transformation
3rd Middlesex drop Junk the donor GT's front seats off at a trimming company to make one good drivers seat for Sven our 'on road' GT (christened before we knew he was Dutch !)
4th Berkshire collect an original leather steering wheel for Lily, along with a few other 480 bits
5th Cornwall collect a set of Volvo mudflaps for Lily, along with a few more 480 bits (I'd swear we have a complete car in the garage rafters, except we rarely seem to have what we actually need)
6th Cornwall visit Tintagel
7th Dorset collect a heavy Gothic stone arch from a church for Al's dream folly in the garden (hence the 850)
8th drag ourselves back to Norfolk, collect the cat and collapse with exhaustion

I wonder if we will spot a 480 along the way ??? If anyone is out and about and gets flashed/waved from an old burgundy 850 estate you'll know who it is...

I took the precaution of testing permanent pens - here's a spare headlamp cover photographed in April and August after being left out in the garden between pics
Image
on the basis of which I went with the Staedtler Duo. Lily is garaged when on sorn, and hides under with a UV resistant cover between outings when it's her turn to be on the road. So far, I haven't had to wash it but when I do it'll just be plain water and the very lightest wipe.
My other precaution was to also have the glovebox lid signed, but that doesn't look anywhere as good.
I thought about having the signature lacquered over, but worried the lacquer might interact with the pen, and it would have yellowed over time anyway.

Finally got our hands on the richmod - it came with the MAF from the same car which is set at a staggering 880 - can only think it had enormous injectors (I've been doing a lot of reading on turbo tuning threads). Al went for a quick test drive after fitting and came back with the biggest grin. (Lily is on sorn but he couldn't resist) Fuel consumption would presumably be terrible so he's going to turn it down to 540, same as his with the robou mod. Her original MAF was set at 440 which explains why she was considerably faster than Eva before she was robou'd. No idea who might have changed it, knowing her history.
Does anyone know the recommended MAF setting for a standard richmod ? I've gone back through rich's threads and can't find it. It will be interesting to see the difference in performance between the 2 mods, then I suspect himself is going to want to do a swap with me. We are planning to take both of them to the rolling road day in June.

Value of the CO-pot has little to do with the overall fuel consumption. For both mods it is advised to start at about 520 ad adjust from there starting with half turns, (never mind the value, it is just a reference) till the car picks up smoothly in 5th gear/1000 rpm. The value found is only decisive for the particular car/mod combination at given conditions.
It is only at idle and low load/low revs this adjustment has a meaning. At any other condition the setting is ignored and manipulation the MAF for lower consumption is asked for.

Lily went to the Rolling Road day today with her richmod, her original standard ecu and Eva's Robou mod so we could compare the three on the same car (Eva's throttle cable has stretched enough for the throttle to no longer open fully so we left her on sorn)
Here is Lily on the 'Road'
Image
and the important bit, the printout showing richmod in red (AFR missing - it was 10), robou mod in blue and standard in green
Image
We were very pleased to see how close to original she is with the standard Volvo ecu. She only had one previous driver who was in his 50's when he got her new as a company car, and after he bought her from his employers he didn't do much mileage and always looked after her well. Then she spent 9 years in store after he could no longer drive. After he died his son had the engine stripped and cleaned before selling to us. It's great to know that the care taken has paid off so well. Current mileage is 66,000.
The comparison between the 2 mods confirms what has been said on here before about the performance.
We had the MAF set at 585 for both modded runs, and 440 for the standard run.
Interestingly, Lily came with her MAF at 440, never having been modded before (although the garage that cleaned the engine out might have tweaked it). Rachel's is at 325, possibly turned down to get it through the last MoT, and Ade's was at 503 and he thinks never been touched. Lily's richmod came with the MAF from the same car and that was at 880. So, as Robou says, never mind the value it's only a reference.

Sorry to say Lily disgraced herself on the Scotland run, no turbo at all and the performance was pathetic to say the least. Painfully slow uphill, then gallop down the other side - not good with average speed cameras. The journey home was very tedious, especially with himself getting impatient and charging off then blaming me when my satnav took me a different way to his. The best bit was that Lily started to make deep rumbly noises which sounded rather like a blown exhaust, so we are hoping it's a shredded pipe with an enormous hole in it rather than a seized turbo. No metallic clicking of fans touching the body so fingers crossed. We planned to do the journey back over 2 days anyway so at least it was shorter stints, but still very tiring.
Both turbos were booked in to our repairman for servicing one after the other starting the day after we got home. I gave him Eva first on the basis that it wouldn't take long, so now she is home and Lily is in. I dread the phone call telling me what is was. 2 servicing bills are painful enough ! :cryhard:

Phew !! Pleased to say Lily's repair was a lot cheaper than I feared. It turned out to be the cat breaking up inside - the initial brief power loss was presumably when something gave way and momentarily blocked the airflow completely, then it must have settled enough to let reduced air through. My tedious nursing her home from Scotland with it getting progressively worse would have been more bits breaking up and adding to the blockage. By the skin of her teeth, she is old enough not to need a cat for the MoT, so she now has an empty shell. Sooo relieved it wasn't the turbo, and so pleased to have a sprightly car to drive home. Just need the richmod reinstalled now.
