Time to repair the speedo. I followed the PDF from German explaining how to change the broken gear inside the speedo.

reparacion tacometro:

I found someone put the paws before on it.

There are several screws missing and tabs broken.

and the side was glued to the dashboard

one of the screws has difficult acess.
Forcing a bit the circuit away from the transparent plastic and keeping it apart with another screw permit me to unscrew without damage.

on this position is enough to remove the broken gear

I created plastic washers to keep the screws in place helping a lot to screw the odometer.

I also repaired the central vent,

I used a bit of plastic from the glue tap for the missing part

And put a lot of glue to reinforce the tabs

Some excellent photos of taking the speedo apart

To be honest most dash-boards are trashed as the plastic seems to suffer from old age, and i reckon that yours will have been exposed to a LOT more sun than in the UK!

I think that half of the tabs /screws are missing broken on ours AND the dash surround is broken at top left corner, probably top right nearest centre of car?
the screws sort of keep 'in location' not 'hold in place'

Yes, Alan, the plastic of the dashboard is very brittle, but can be repaired with a bit of fiber glass and time :D

There is no heat on the seats but the switches on the center console are present. I check the connections and I only see the grey conector that seems it's for the warning belt, when I unplug it, the belt warning light switch off on the cluster.

The other conectors are for to give power to the seats?

Image

On the right seat there are no wiring at all

Time to repair the headlight bracket.

Image

The corner is broken. So it makes impossible to adjust the length of the low beam.

Image

Luckily I had an spare from an older 480. The part is the same.

I also removed rust from the top cover.

Image

And glue it

and put new bulbs

Image

Up to 120% more light doesn't mean it's 120% more powerful :?

In the bracket there's a place to put an electrical motor for the automatic leveling, but I'm not sure that there's enough room for it.
I never red something about electrical leveling on headlamps though.

that socket in last image is EXACTLY the same shape as the holder for the side lights (or indicators) I thought it was for USA as unsure if they allowed 'square' headlights (or maybe another country?)

PS I have a pair of BRAND (well nearly) NEW Left Hand Drive lens etc.

they are sitting in the loft gathering dust, any takers?

Yes Alan, your right, but i think it is also the same socket than the motor leveling. The room is very small but it the motor fits whithout interference, it would permit to have electrical leveling.

Image

It would be necessary to remove the screw and put an spherycal fit.

This pivot or similar probably would fit in the bracket of the headlamp. The hole is already done.

Image

It would be also necessary to interchange the top ones to permit horizontal adjustment.

Thanks for the offer Alan, I've got an spare headlight, I hope it will be enough.

What the $#@($#%??? $12,41 a piece plus $40 shipping? You could try local Mazda sources instead of getting it from across the pond, or use the original Volvo brackets, that would be a LOT cheaper.

Yes, extremly expensive, I didn't notice the shipping cost. It was the first I found on ebay and it was for showing, I don't have intention on put that leveling on the car.

Emptying the fuel tank. At this step the engine starts to rattle on steep roads.
692kms run, 25kms left and two bars on the gauge.

Image

692 run are close to the 705 kms showed on the computer. It's accurate.

Nice. I also have a problem with the clutch. But the oposite, I have to press it hard all the way to the floor to disengage and shift from 1st to 2nd. I will try to adjust the screw.

Then, you have to screw the nut.

My clutch is probably very old and that's why I had to unscrew it a lot.
This system is harder to press than hydraulics one but much more simple and reliable, specially on old cars.

I've made some adjustment and much better! Allthough I screwed it in a bit too far. A small adjustment allready makes a difference.
