Pollution rides out!

Post by jamesy12345 » Sat Aug 31, 2013 9:37 am

Image

It's time to dig Pollution out of the garage! She is on SORN at the moment but hopefully not for much longer now I have shed a couple of cars :D

This is how she looked when I arrived to buy it [2011]....

Image

...on the way back up to Durham from Slough...

Image

From January [2013, not used for a good few months]….

Image

May the Volvo gods forgive me (I hope there isn’t a specific Volvo 480 god…I imagine they would be hard to please, requiring daily human sacrifices or similar in exchange for a fully functioning electronics).

Err anyway, where was I, generally in OK condition, 3 owners before I purchased her in late 2011. Mileage is around 87k. A 1993 1.7 turbo automatic with the B18FT

Engine bay not so bad

Image

Nice ar…ches

Image

Image

Battery tray ‘orrible

Image

A very special model with additional ventilation

Image

Image

Some corrosion starting there, should be able to sort that out….

Image

….not only by just covering it honest

Image

I suspect the rear lights are not quite as waterproof as they once were……..

Image

And after a mere 20 years the CD changer has stopped working :( (wherever it is)

Looks like a few weekends of quality time in the garage :) would sort that. Your tail lights looks a lot like mine did, and cracks don't improve watertightnes as You know
but nice project, go for it :D

Yay!! :D

Looks like a worthy project James and hopefully you can find a little time to spend on it when your home now I've lightened the load. ;)

Not sure what "PopupCem" would make of your 480 sacrifice in Orange Blossom Special though?!

Never did get to see Polution when I came up, maybe next time ;)

Tax - yes, but only if it's pre-booked. Not just a turn up and we'll try and squeeze you in jobby.

Insurance - definitely not. If you had a bump on the way there you would have no insurance to pay for the damages to your car or any others involved.

Not worth the risk these days James, especially with all those nice shiny ANPR cars knocking about! :(

Cheers for comments fella. Will get the insurance sorted then, ha ha in less than a year I have changed car 4 times on the same insurance policy, they'll be wondering what I am up to.....Pollution, Columbia, Ray, the Black Shark and now back to Pollution again  . I hope I can still have my no claims bonus!

Tax can wait a bit then, just til I get the MOT sorted - you saw where I lived Steve, not much chance of getting nabbed by one of those new fangled road tax cameras around there.

Lol!!

Forgot to give you details of my fleet insurance...

Google "Clegg Gifford." They offer a product called "Family Fleet" and that's the one I have.

You need a minimum of three cars to qualify, but you could just bung OBS on to make up numbers. That's what I did with the Capri at first.

If you manage to find the number, ask for "Ian Jolly in Family Fleet," nice chap, sorted me right out. ;)

Steve :hopping:

Oh, completely unrelated: Did you.post the log book for Ray before you left mate?
Just it's not turned up yet. Although DVLA are prob quite busy at the moment with all the new registrations in this double/triple dip recession we can't seem to get out of, but I don't think I've ever seen so many new cars on the roads!!

Hmm...

LOL I never said I was going to "Schtop (where is his hairy chest and bushy moustache....?)" haha

I am powerless to resist 80's French tat I'm afraid, so the 11 will soon be in my possession!

Here she is...christened the raft o'sh1te by my kind work pals

Image

Unless Pollution drastically fails the MOT, in which case I will need a re-think, then this project and thread are still goers! My parents have have an interest in getting Pollution on the road so they can use her while I am at work. OBS I'm afraid, may not make it......:D

I actually just spat my sandwich out I laughed that hard!!!!

Raft o'sh1te is a genius name, maybe quite kind!! ;)

PMSL!

Funilly enough, Jon (the lad with the 460 who took the throttle cable) also has a major hard-on for all things smelling of garlic.

Maybe you should get a room and just get it over with!

Steve :hopping:

, If OBS did ever make it, it'd need new front seats and a steering wheel as well as everything else, 'cos I'm having them! ;)

:D

RoS is damn funny I wish I had thought of it

Going by his user name on VoC, Jon also likes Russian stuff too, so, yeah tbh, let's stick some Barry White on the CD player, turn the lights down low….my mate with the 309 can come along and chuck his Peugeot keys into the bowl also

You are welcome to the seats and wheel matey

Funilly enough, I really like 309 GTis, 205s too.

Anything else French is just pants though in my book. 400 series is the nearest I've come to owning a French motor!

When you back matey?

You collecting the new beast then? Better be quick before it surrenders to a pile of rusty dust... It does look like it's by the sea in the pics!! ;)
