Casually browsing the internet I found the white she devil for sale :hopping: :hopping:

Somebody decided to rescue the old banger from the scrap yard and has given it a new MOT
http://www.dba.dk/volvo-480-17-es-1989-km/id-504222531/

I'm glad it got another chance to live on.

At 13,500 DK it looks like cars in Denmark hold their value better than those over here in the UK - that equates to £1400 or so, which would buy a fairly respectable low mileage car here... not that there are many of those left in the UK 480 fold, of course!! :hopping:

Still, it is good to see the marque being loved elsewhere too!

Good spot!

Martin

In my last post many years ago I was happy to see that someone gave the white she devil a new MOT. Some time late (maybe a year or so) I checked the registration office just to discover that the car had been exportet out of the country. It was most likely sold to Germany and used as parts.
The reason for that is the laws in Denmark. When exporting a used car You can claim some on the initial registration tax back (currently 180% when new) in Denmark this was a very expensive car back in the days, so I guess it was the only feasible thing to do.

Ah well  still miss driving it.

Are they still affordable now in Denmark or all gone and prices gone crazy?

The 480 scene has diminished a lot, over the last 2-3 years. I belive the danish 480 club has closed it's activity.

Currently only 19 480's hold a valid registration and MOT (out of 266 cars). There are only two cars for sale at this point at exorbitant prices.

1) low milage and very clean 1989 turbo - 8375£
2)also a 1989 Turbo with many miles - 10.000£

I can find you a mint condition 1992 Turbo auto with 51,000 kms for 10,000: https://www.dijkstra-classic-cars.nl/on ... 480-turbo/
I guess the tax on importing a car, even over 25 years old, is tremendous in DK. In NL we have very high taxes on new cars, but the tax collector says deprecation of the car is 92% at 9 1/2 years and 100% after 17 1/2 years, so you pay zero tax when importing an old car from within the EU.

Uhh brinkie. That's is a really nice and clean car you found :D :D

Just for fun. I found the latest import tax evaluation on a Volvo 480 in the public tax system.

The car was evaluated in june this year. A 1992 480 ES (milage ?)
Price new in 1992 39.399 £ or 44.323 euro
Estemated sales price 9.985 £ or 11.200 euro
Import tax 5445 £ or 6130 euro

I'm not sure how it is calculated. But the import tax is a percentage of the estimated sales price. How they estimate the sales price ??

Hovewer it gets totalt cracy if the car is more than 30 years old. Then the import tax is calculated from the original sales price and not the estimated sales price (as far as I understand) I think it is 40 % of the original sales price  in this case, if the car was from 1985 the import tax would be 15.756 £ or 17.728 euro

In essens if You wan't to import a old (expencive) car to Denmark, You would have to do it before it turned 30 years old = veteran car.

What a car! But also, what an ad. I will keep a pdf in case one day I need inspiration...
I am just sorry for ChrisDK because of the tax regime. I am Danish myself (but never lived in DK) and so it is a special pinch to see such restrictions on what is a bit a form of heritage conservation, as cars are one of our key possessions since early last century.
But I digress.

In Danish they would probably say "det er helt skørt!"

https://www.fyidenmark.com/importingcartoDenmark.html
"The costs of importing car to Denmark usually averages out to about 180% of the value of the car. That is not a misprint - average is 180%."

My wife is fluent in Danish, actually South Jutlandic dialect (we always have fun how Legoland employees respond when a foreign tourist suddenly speaks their local dialect ), and the thought of moving to less densely populated places has crossed our minds, but this would be a dealbreaker because her Volvo V70 would cost its weight in gold this way... Pity that foreigners aren't allowed to own a holiday cottage. The Danes are very good at keeping out anything that wants to cross the border I guess.

By the way, the 480 Turbo automatic from the ad has been advertised by its original owner -a Dutchman living in Switzerland- for years but nobody wanted it. He bought the car for his daughter, who was too scared to drive with it, as she is very short. So he decided to restore his mother's (her grandmother's) 1986 Suzuki Alto completely. It's probably one of the best examples money can buy at the moment.

Det er helt skørt

Dispite of the expensive cars and the high tax rate, we are the happiest people in the world ;)
Uhh.. South Jutlandic dialect even for me it's hard to understand when two south Jutlandic people engage in a conversation. But it have it's charm :D Besides the practicality of having a wife that's fluent in the difficult danish language, south Jutland is very pretty in fact so is the whole of Jutland and the south of fyen. We often compare our selves to the dutch people. I think we are very like minded albeit the danes seems to be more protective against any foreign values.

Since I don't have a Volvo annymore I have switched to a Eastgerman MZ motorcycle. Once a year a bunch of german freinds come to denmark and we drive around on motorcycles for three days. They especially like the costal line of jutland (east and west).
