My 1987 480ES (and 480 Turbo :-) -since 02.2010)

Post by bigdickbuster » Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:35 pm

Hello all!

I'm from Poland and I'm owner of a 480ES produced in 1987.

My car came to Poland from Holland in 1992 with damaged front of the car. New owner repair it and used his Volvo ocasionally. In 2001 Volvo has about 100.000 km and was sold. Next owner remove the rust on the rear wheel arches. He used this car about one year, because the CEM made failures, and the mechanics can't fix this problem.

Car was sold with 130.000 km on the clock and new owner was a very old and nice man. He use Volvo few months and sold. The car still had CEM failure.

Next owner had my ES about one year. Probably he was angry to his choice of car, because he didn't drove a lot. He made about 15.000 km and sold the car.

The man which bought this ES in 2004 was a Volvo fan. It was Milosz_480. He try to repair all defect in the car. But it failed. After two years he sold red ES.

Next dude was probably a little dumb :) Nevermind why, but he drove my car about one month and sold. My friend was the buyer.

My friend had my ES about one year, but more he stood than he drove. The car still was not so driveable.

This horrible history didn't scared me and I bought this car in April 2008, made few repairs and drove since October 2008.

This car is amazing and probably likes me, because i made about 6000 km without failures :)

This is first photo during the first driving :)

Image

Previous owners had difficult life with this ES.

Milosz made cylinder head restoration for example. He told me, that he has lain under car every week

The man which bought the car in 2001 had problems with CEM. The pop-ups didn't work, electric antenna goes crazy, the car was able to stop without concrete reason when he was on the highway 200 km from home... Once upon a time electric wiring under the front hood was in fire!!!

When i bought the ES from my friend, she wasn't driveable. Electric fuel pump was broken because in the fuel tank was few liters of water.

I remove the water, and cleaned injectors and fuel pipes.
The car runs good, have excellent acceleration. B18E engine have 80kW/109BHP.
I have a little problem with revs between 2200-2500 RPM.

I must change front shock absorbers and other stuff in the front suspension :)
Passenger door have a little rust in one place. Front bumper must be repainted.
Some time ago I bought rear lamp clusters. They haven't cracks and looks like new :D

Some parts of electric loom under the hood must be changed.

Here is a few photos:

According to the data received from Volvo my car was manufactured 14 August 1986. Model year 1987.

I used the VIN decoder from a volvo-480-europe.org website.

A result is 67 car produced in 1987. So, my Volvo is one of the first car which drove out of the factory :D

Today I changed injectors and fuel pressure regulator. They are from BMW 635 CSi :)

Reference number is 0280 150 130. Injectors with this number can replace original 0280 150 126.

Now car drive excellent, smooth and gently :D

I'm proud of myself ;)

Problem with right CV joint is sorted :)

The reason of strange noise was... wheel balance weight in the rear right wheel

When the car accelerated, rear axle was going down and brake pipe from handbrake was tapped (or knocked) the wheel balance weight :bla:

Oil leakage was caused by the oilcap gasket :)

20th February 2010

Finally I've bought a Turbo :hopping:

It's 1990 edition. 88KW/120PS. Sold first 18.01.1990 on the German market. Body in good condition. Some small rust in few places

Original electric sun (or moon) roof. Momo steering wheel. Original Volvo speakers :D

Need few repairs like every 480  but the turbo works very well :hopping:
