So now its running and have put all new fluids in .Bloody gearbox oil was £43 !

Time to put the beast back together

Found this in the shed and remembered where it went

Image

Next the driving lamps and front cone

Image

Then my nice new clusters

Image

That leaves the bumper and fog lights.

All working and am really pleased with the result.

Well it passed so just needs taxing. :D I can now sort out the hifi side of things. After that what shall I do with myself ?

Going to Volvo tomorrow to pick up a new Intercooler pipe as the one I've got is very soft. Also going to test drive a C30.

Well I bought a GT with the idea of restoring bot on closer inspection apart from the wheel arches which are totally gone so too are the inner sills holes in the boot etc.
The engine is fine so too are the seats and wheels.

I cleaned both and put them on the Turbo to see how they look.

Image
Image
Image

Look OK but I think I will sell when I have painted my Taurus wheels.

Seats can go anytime

Up date on the wheels ,I have decided to keep them and have put four new Kumho Ku31 195/55 15 V tyres on.

I also had the tracking done , Not tested them yet as I had an oil leak. It turned out to be the Turbo return oil hose it was in a very poor state.
I have ordered a silicon replacement as it needed to reduce from 16mm to 12mm Don't you just love laying on your back
trying to get into places that are too awkward to get .lol

One of the niggles on my Turbo was the sunroof not closing properly so out it came .

I removed the headliner and all the bits of trim and the multitude of screws holding the roof in.

It turned out to be the left hand push rod that had snapped. I managed to repair it and replace the roof. A very fiddly job to say the least.

Image

Well while the roof was out I thought it was a good time to sound deaden the rest of the roof. Two layers was used to get the right "thud".

Putting all the trim back was easier than I thought it would be so I think it was worth the effort.

This car is my weekend car,( as long as its not raining) so boot space is not an issue.
So as I love music , quality speakers and audio equipment I decided to install a system to fulfill my desires.
I know this sort of thing is not to everyones taste but hey ......
I bought all second hand stuff which to start with was the Boston 10" sub

Image

I had to make a box with the correct volume 0.5 cubiic feet .I used 1"and 3/4 " MDF then covered in vinyl.

This thing is heavy and bigger than my previous sub so major changes were needed to accommodate the amps and access to the spare tyre.
What I did was to make an amp rack that lifted .

Image

Image

Here are pics with the covers in place

Image

Image

All in all pretty pleased with the result and the old Phoenix Gold amps match the car perfectly .
Then I hit a big problem ..The M44 developed a fault and left me with a dilema. Do I get it repaired or replace it ?.

While I am sorting my amp out I picked up a working left hand side fog light from a nice chap in Northampton.
A little bit of wiring and a good clean its now working.

I do have a couple of things planned for the old girl later in the year but for now I hope to just enjoy her. :D

On Friday I am having a new cat fitted and MOT'd .I suppose I ought to adjust the handbrake before I take it .
The cat rattles and the gaskets are leaking so hence the replacement. I wonder if there will be any difference ?
I hope to replace the rest of the system with a stainless one when the time comes so had better get saving.

Well it passed no problems so another year of 480 ownership :D I bought some new spark plugs today to give her a treat as the ones that are in are the ones that came with the engine .I have to say though they were fine at the time .
In the next few months I am going to tinker with a few little bits and I may do a refurb on the original wheels .

I decided to retrim the door cards in the same material as the speaker pods so it matches .I think its better .

Image

I have also had a light tint to the rear windows and rear hatch. Looks darker on the pictures though.

Have just put new front discs and pads on the Turbo as the pads were cracked and delaminating ! Also the steering wheel was snatching to the left when braking which I found to be caused by the left track rod end.Have changed both to be sure .
Also I noticed my boost was a bit feeble so I removed the recirc valve and found it defective .The inner diaphragm was split. I thought about a Forge replacement but I opted for the Bosch 710N .Wow what an improvement !
So all in all there is nothing else to do so I bought a new project off the bay ....

Image

I picked it up from Southampton and drove back to Nottingham with no problems so well pleased. I know its not a 480 but variety is the spice of life !

So we have all been there, a few glasses of wine, searching 480 issues...

... and you stumble on threads like these...

They generate more questions than answers... firstly WHY did it melt a piston?

Anyway.... this gorgeous Turbo was immaculate that I can see... Thankfully the photobucket pictures are half working. The guy was hand washing his screen washer bottle for Pete's sake! Brand new light clusters front AND back by 2010...

"MyCarCheck" on M651PJO says last MOT 2014... roughly the same time "kev" stops posting.

How did these cars die? Was it underside body welding that finished them off?

I just find it so hard to believe that cars so deeply cared for to warrant new light clusters then die four years later?!?

The forum is littered with mystery cars like these...

Like I say, more questions than answers... :?

Back to that wine
