Aye hope second time around the emissions are OK, I have same issue, reading is too high on lamda although everything else seems OK and the HC are fine, I'd concentrated on making sure gas tight BEFORE the cat, never thought about air getting sucked in so giving the MoT a 'weak' reading as they will get a diluted sample!!

worth a look for next year , but plan to try using a spare Lambda at the tail pipe before and after and if nothing helps then swap the ECU for a couple spares see if can get a better result

I had to admit defeat for my plans for Nikela (NKL registration) over the Bank Holiday. I was hoping to pick her up from Jeff and go over to the bodyshop for a quote, then stay over and take her to the classics meet at Stony Stratford. She could have gone on display with For Sale signs on her which just might have found a buyer. However, the V5 due the week before had not arrived when our hotel cancelled thanks to a plumbing problem which left them with no hot water. All the hotels in the area were either full or very expensive, so in desperation I tried airbnb. The first host I sent a request to hadn't anwered in 24 hours, so I picked another one and they didn't answer either. Meanwhile, the week was ticking on with still no V5 and therefore no tax, so Nikela wasn't going anywhere and neither were we !

This is how she looks now:

Image

Can't say I'm a fan of her lipstick colour ! Hopefully we can find a way to get cranna's spare bumper (ex red GT) ferried down south from Aberdeen, she'd look so much more presentable.

Now I'm thinking maybe we will put Nikela on the road instead of one of ours so she can get her quote, drive around Norfolk a bit and come to the meeting later in September. She could undoubtedly do with a run and I can then feed back to Jeff if either of us detects any problems. He has only driven her to and from the MoT station which is not exactly far enough to put her through her paces. This plan will leave a vacant spot on Jeff's front drive which I will of course promptly fill !

Regarding bumper ferrying: At some point I will be up in Gateshead, this could possibly as soon as mid/late-September, early-October. Aberdeen is about 5 hours from there. I could then get it down to MK or Norfolk.

Can any of our Scottish members get it a little further south? I could maybe go up a little higher, like the border or maybe Edinburgh and call it a holiday to my wife.

Does anyone reckon a bumper would fit in a 480 with the front seat folded forward? Or, maybe I should take a bigger car!

Not sure about front seat folded forward, but if you put a seat cover on and recline it back flat, with the back seat folded, there will be enough space for sure :D

Not a bad idea either! I am not sure how happy Rachel will be if she is forced to sit behind me for hours on end though!

Maybe a job for David’s roof bars if I do take the 480.

A 480 front bumper just squeezes into the boot of a V60 with the back seat fully down, so I think getting one into a 480 might be ambitious!

James, you'd be welcome to the roof bars provided they can get back from Martin in time for you  . If you're heading to Gateshead you could call by...

As I said before, I'm happy to do the last leg to MK if the bumper can be got down to the North of England - John's suggestion of Newcastle would be OK for me to go up to collect from him.

Problem with Paisley Freight was that they wanted something that long on a pallet, as well as bubble wrapped and in a cardboard box. When I looked for a price, their pallet service was suspended.

R6 is now with me for test driving - we have a leak of power steering fluid causing very noisy steering. Jeff had topped it up, but the level has gone down again. Topped it up today and it was bubbling away nicely so the pump is still working. There's fluid splattered about under the bonnet, but it looks like it's been dripping on the alternator and getting sprayed from there. It's only a small leak, but Al can't see where it's coming coming from. hmmm.

The clutch and accelerator pedals were very stiff at first, and gear changes not easy but now I've clocked up a fair mileage it's all eased off and started to drive quite nicely. Annoyingly, the speedo has failed since I've had it - well what else would a 480 do ?

We went to my old bodyshop today to see what they could do on a limited budget - the boss was confident it would cover the small amount of rust on the rear arches and the rusty scratch along the roof. He'll wait and see how much rust he finds, if it's minimal he might be able to squeeze in dents.

Once that's done, the plan is to transfer R6 to dc's Pamper Parlour where it will get a lot more love. Meanwhile there WAS a space on Jeff's drive..........

Having spent October on sorn with her leaky PAS pump, R6 (dubbed Nikela for her NKL reg) got taxed and went into the bodyshop today. Sadly, not the uber cheap bodyshop I was hoping to use as he declined to do any paint jobs in the forseeable future. Something to do with converting a bus into something akin to a road rocket.

Having advocated for doing paint rather than selling as is, I wait with baited breath to see how far the budget stretches and how much success we have selling for the target price of £3k. I arrived at this figure by totalling up what it has cost, including the value of donated parts. My view is that donations are intended for the rescue effort, not as a freebie for the buyer. Effectively, this means that selling a car which has been the recipient of decent rear light clusters for example, converts the clusters into cash for the pot to spend on future rescues. We can't keep hoping members will dip into their own parts stashes and donate treasure, so it would be great to be in a position to at least pay for what we need. I don't think a GT in nice condition with a full MoT and near-perfect interior is expensive at 3K but we will have to wait and see if the market agrees.

Once she is back from the bodyshop, she will make her way 'oop north' and change places with Pud (was R2) on dc's drive so the Pamper Parlour can swing into action - leaky PAS pump, gearbox oil change, intermittent speedo and another lubrication of the sticky throttle are on the agenda, along with more applications of leather conditioner and a re-spray of the front bumper. Having done Pud's, dc is confident he can do a decent job if the weather is kind enough for him to work outside. (The transfer of a GT bumper from Aberdeen unfortunately proved impractical). O, and our breaker, Junk, gave up his GT badge so Nikela can dispose of her temporary foreigner.

If DC needs a lift down to collect R6 I would be more than willing,I owe him some favours! Also my garage is available for any paint spraying if the weather is not good. When we finally sort R3s new issues out there will be space on the drive for another 480. R3 has had a new clutch and ignition barrel but has decided that it’s time for the info centre to throw a wobbler!

Thanks to a tanker driver who reversed into our Saab, it's now in for repair so a 480 had to take to the road. Having been tucked up for the winter in a garage we rent, Snazzy unexpectedly found herself enjoying some winter sun. It was great to be driving her again.

Image

After the shopping, we went off to the bodyshop to see how R6 was getting on. It was deserted, but the side door wasn't locked so I nipped in for a look.

Image

Significantly more work than I was expecting, I hope he hasn't forgotten the budget I gave him ! That looks like a front to back respray on both sides as well as the roof. I did tell him not to bother about the front bumper as dc was/is primed to do it, but the fact it's missing makes me wonder if that's getting sprayed as well.

She has some pretty illustrious company in the shape of a Pontiac Firebird - pity the cars were so close together I couldn't get a better picture.

Image

Rather surreal to see it nose to nose with a Moggy Minor ! Talk about chalk and cheese...

Image

and yes, it's a 6.6 litre Trans-Am.

I'd certainly be popping in with a box of Christmas chocs when you do the next "official" visit. Always helps I find!
