clifford alarm/immobiliser

Post by Rachel » Fri Jul 06, 2012 8:30 am

hi.....i have a clifford alarm fitted in my 480T but the immobiliser stays on resulting in me having to disconnect the battery for a while until finally it lets the car start. Doesn't matter if i don't set the alarm it just does it anyway, and also does odd things like locking and unlocking all on its own....so.... thinking i should just do away with it as i don't want to spend out getting it seen to really (better things to spend money on) so my question is how best to do this? anyone know?

Thanks.

these after market alrms even toad ones are a pain in the neck I have had to remove 2 alarms / remote locking systems one put in by an enthusiast and one a thatxham garage fitted job they are all IMHO a disaster waiting to happen I just ripped the brains out the them. the crucial ara is at the ignition swithch on the steering column as they cut that and splice in their unit . So before you start remove the cowling from the steering wheel and have a good look at it . I also had to short out a relay/switch on the bonnet that was fitted so change only one thing at a time.

So what I did on the toad alarm was (in order);-

short out the switch they had fitted to the bonnet.
removed cowling on steering column and the daashboard as well. (never seen so many inline fuses in wiring .
removed glove box (see sentence below) and the upper "kick plate". at passenger side
disconnected "brain" unit usually located above /beside glove comparment .
reconnected the original ignition wires where cut to fit new alarm.
examined all the connectors to see which ones where cut/spliced into the original circuitry and reconnected where appropriate.
allow a full afternoon for the job.
fully road test.
I left the toad wiring in place as the more cutting you aare going to do the more chance of screwing up there is. Some dy I will fully remove the wiring but not just now , get it working reliably first for a while then complete the removal at a later date.
Lastly remove the damn alarm/siren unit :D

work slowly and methodocally think twice before you cut anything.
its not hard really.

I had a retro fit immobiliser/alarm on and it played up a bit, maybe a bit obvious and not applicable to yours but, I just used the funny little key, switched it of under the bonnet, and left it all in, no more problems and not exactly an inconvenience left where it was...
Had a Turbo, then got a celebration, then had to go back to Turbo!!!

Alarms can be a pain in the bum. Some are just too complicated they get irritating. The one you have has probably been programmed to auto rearm, thats why it's setting itself all the time.
Maybe an idea to look up a programming manual and follow the steps.. it's a git tho cos they're all "turn the key on and off xx times, then press the button after the 45th beep" etc.
I can remove them too if you need some help ;)

thanks for the replies :Di will look into switching auto rearm off. i have also been reading the manual and i might try switching it onto valet mode...this, in theory, should, if i'm lucky, but probably won't, stop it from auto arming...i might still be able to use the remote locking function also. i'll try it and see before i go further, although i think i might have tried it ages ago...worth another go!

i don't have a funny little key :(

thanks kez for your offer.... ;)
