The car was in a mechanic to make the mod. However he got lazy on the work and we got the car out of there.

Now we've been checking everything and noticed the missing fuel pressure regulator valve.

We're going to put a new one to see if it makes any difference.... hope it does :)

But the fuel line connects to the reg, and the reg is sealed into the rail by an o-ring...ive no idea what you could possibly replace it with, and i'd be astonished if the car would run without one.

The Fuel return line goes into the fuel regulator. Without a fuel regulator you'll either get petrol all over the engine, or if it was blanked off then it'll be running very very rich, possibly forcing the injectors open if that is possible?

I've just fitted the fuel pressure regulator and it responds in a different way when i turn the ignition on. Sometimes it does start but idling at 3.000rpm.

Tough break... i'm going to try another fuel pump with more pressure.

I'm running out of options and no solution yet :?

check throttle butterfly/plate is fully shut, and the idle screw is present in the top of the throttle body. Then, check for air leaks on the three hoses on the left side of the inlet manifold and you fitted them to the right things?

With the throttle shut, I'm not sure if its possible for the engine to rev to 3000 rpm? You got any photos of the engine?

The butterfly is totally closed and the screw is there. There's no open hole in the inlet manifold.

I'm going to get a pic.

For some months we haven't done nothing to the car.

Now we had some time again, tested it with a Volvo 400 Tutbo fuel pump, same thing

Read http://volvo480.dragons.org.uk/forum/vi ... hp?t=15244 I started with my 480 playing up but came day 3 it would not start.

turned out the rotor arm in the dizz cap was cracked.

Also do this.

Crank the engine over
no start
remove the spark plug
look down the hole into piston. full of petrol?

I suspect the injector is wide open or weak spark.

Have you removed the injectors and tested these on crank over? Should spray.

Concerned about your loom also! Could you missing a wire out?

Has the dizzy cap got it's grounding cable on and water shield on?

What happens if you spray starting spray into throttle when open and cranking over?
