Bottom end height???
Hi! I am Dmirty from Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
I need Help!
Nowdays I have started my BIG project: 2.0 16V motor with Webers 45 DCOE carburattor.
I have alredy bought long rods (150 mm lenght), volvo S80 pistons, volvo 460 1.9 turbodiesel crankshaft, Renault 19 16V F7P motor head, and Renault F3R (2.0L) bottom end (height = 29.1 mm). So I have some difficults: the F3R bottom end height is too big! And I think, that Volvo 480 2.0 bottom end height is lower, than Renault F3R 2.0 bottom end due to shorter rods. Could you tell me what height of 2.0 volvo bottom end?
Thank you and sorry for my english....

Welcome to the forum.
Aren't the rods 149mm long? (=for B20 rods, B18 con rods are 133mm long)
What do you actually mean with bottem end height? Perhaps a pic could help.
If you mean the height of the engine block. I do know that the B20F is 11mm higher then the B18E/EP/FP/FT blocks.
Why don't you use Renault F4R or F7R pistons? Are you using 83mm diametre S80 pistons?)

Do the S80 pistons fit at the conrods? And are the compression height of the pistons good? If not You would end up with a too low or high compression ratio.webermaniac wrote:1. rods are 150 mm long
2. yes. I mean the height of the engine block = 291mm
3. yes. I use 83 mm pistons. They are shorter! and have bigger diameter.
Besides the F4R, F7R pistons are in oversize avaible. I believe up to 83,5mm (as second oversize, first overbore is 83,2mm). Ceheck Mahle.com for info on pistons.(online catalog)
The B20F block is very probably as high as the F3R one. You could try the B18 block (F2N etc.). THese blocks are 11m lower (281mm). The 1794cc version has the same bore as the F3R (82.7mm), but the F3R crank wont fit without modification to this block. You also could use the 1721cc versions, since you want to bore the block out. (still the 93mm stroke crank will not fit without modification).
Perhaps you could investigate Alfa Romeo 33/145/146 pistons (the boxer engine). They come in 84mm bore and have the same piston pin diametre.
@volvo-bigbrother: Tuning and tweaking would be the place for this topic. It certainly is for intrest for 480 racers
Good Luck!

7mm is a lot.
hhmmm, webers wont go very well with turbo's, dont they? (perhaps you could find Lotus Esprit Dellortos and stick a turbo on it. Now that's sounds easy )
