some of you might know ,i have a renault 9 1.7 gtx(same engine as volvo 480s on a carb setup ) as a daily driver.
its just passed its mot surprisingly with flying colors .
but the other day i parked her up everything was fine ,the next day
i started up again the engine ran for 30 seconds with the choke on and died all of a sudden .
it cranks nicely but thats all it does , no firing action
there is something which i think might be related to this problem ,
i was having this squueky sound of a spinning part from the head /timing belt area for the last few days starting from cold than it was disappearing
after 5 mins of idle .
took the cam belt cover to inspect but could not really pin point it .
and now she is refusing to fire .
since than i checked ;
rotor arm(swapped with another)
dizzy cap(swapped with another)
fuel pump (mechanical ,ran by the camshaft) by taking it out and pushing the plunger on it ,it pumps fuel .
spark at plugs and coil lead
swapped the ignition computer with a spare one i have
but nothing has worked , i am trying to work out other theories that might be affecting the situation , was gonna do a compression test as well but in order to do that i have to be able to run the engine
and warm it up a tad
any ideas ,suggestions would be much appreciated
cheers

.
Maybe its the coil module.Just a guess. But I did work on 9/11 Renaults back in 1985/6 and sure they had a coil module attached to the coil itself.
Try swapping that,I would.
