ES GT?

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

ES GT?

Post by Chriscymru » Sun Oct 02, 2005 6:22 pm

Hi all

Just joined. Have recently aquired a '94 GT in what seems to be good condition (hmmm??), did just pass MOT with no issues though, which was ace.

One question... it's registered as a GT, but has an ES badge on the back. Is this right, or have i bought something dodgy??

The only other thing is that the CEM takes a while to get going some mornings. Blank display until about half an hour into journey, then comes to life and all works fine, which always makes me very happy. So not too bad really. Anyone else had similar issues??

Anyway, thanks for having me,

Cheers for now

Chris

welcome to the club :D
for starters, if you have a proper GT, you should have a special GT interior and GT multispoke alloys.

Welcome!

apparently there were a few normal ES's that were registered wrongly by the DVLA so although the log book says its a GT its actually an ES.
does it have the cross spoke 15" GT wheels and the special (eye watering!) GT interior?

as for your infocentre, this is a well documented problem and you probably need to resolder the pins for the connector plugs inside the dash board. a quick search of the forum should bring up all the info you need?

where abouts in wales do you stay? theres a few welsh dudes on here, i'm sure they'll be along soon....

My info centre went blank(i'm guessing this is what you mean) last night. I kept restarting the car to try and make it work but wouldnt have none of it. I tried all the electrics and then when I turned main beam on it came back to life. Must be a dodgy connection somewhere. Don't want to look for it though as my car has never had the instrument cluster taken out!!!!! It had all these sticker seals around where it sits in the brackets and a load of foam insulation around the edges(I took it out to change tonnes of bulbs and all the foam fell off!). Very wierd for an 137000m car!!! It hasnt had the PCB pin soldering done to it yet either

As for the GT issue maybe it was either registered wrong or the boot has been changed(wiring maybe?) for an ES and he hasnt bothered to hair drier the ES bit off!

haha, yes they've caused all manner of hassle...especially when people have refused to believe their 'gt' was in fact an es. *cough*

Hi mate!

If your car is Vase Green and you bought it off ebay,I did write to the seller informing him that GTs werent even made in that colour and that it was a 2.0 ES.

I could be talking about a different car,but when I returned the next day to see if he had ammended the description,it still read in the header as a 480 GT but he'd added info at the botttom of the listing saying it was an ES.

DVLA fucked up lots with this, theres been lots of owners with the wrong model type stamped on their logbooks.Id sent it to them and get them to change the details.

Wouldnt say the car looked dodgy at all, looked like a good clean 2.0 ES to me mate, and I hope thats just what you got too!Welcome to Clubbas Pointy Carus!!!!!

Whoa, muchos responce in such short time.

tidy.

OK, so quite possiblt it's an ES. Thats fine. Just checking if a GT should have a GT badge. Alright... so probably a stupid question.

However, it does have the half leather interior. Not like the one in the link above though - actually it's nicer, all black and subtle and stuff.

And no, i didn't get it off Ebay. It's actually black, and doesn't have the red stripe down the side - isn't that another sign of a GT??

Hasn't got the fancy alloys though.

Anyway, enough of my GT envy. I'm actually super happy with it so far. Running well, only 60k on the clock, and everything seems operational.

But, there is one more thing...

How do I engage Super-Persuit-Mode??

I don't think it's a GT then.

Low mileage late model black ES in good nick's worth nearly as much as a GT anyway, so don't sweat it!

Hey Chris, nice to see another member from the better side of the border. :D

The interior in the GT's is def an aquired taste so your probably better off with the ES - I think it's a definate improvement! The red stripe was only on the earlier 480's me finks.

Anyway, sounds like a nice example, and black is deffo one of the best colours in my book.

Stu.

Super-persuit-mode?

All 6 front facing lights on full beam <<Fogs on, Main beams on, and the drivers lamp switch next to the seat heaters on>>

Then angrily chase other road users into hedges!

Or is that just installed on my car?

Welcome to the club my friend
Sounds like you've landed on a damn fine example of these fantastic cars.
