Reliant 480?

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

back to the point in hand though gaz......
This has all been discussed before, and the concensus has always been that the 480 was similar to the Scimitar.

In fact now I think about it, someone suggested that the 1800 was copied from the Scimitar, as the Scimtar was designed/released in '64 and the 1800 in '71, which only adds weight to the discussion.
maybe im misunderstanding what you are saying......
in the first para you said that the 480 and scimitar are similar, which is what i personally disagree on.

in the second para, you refer to the p1800 and the scimitar being similar, to which i AGREE wholeheartedly

I know that the 480 is a progression from the 1800 (and we are talking the 1800es yes?) but i still dont think there are that many similarities.

at the end of the day, its all about the eye of the beholder...i probably see something totally different to you when i look at the 480...

So, if you read BOTH of my sentances, you should therefore be able to detect that there are similarities between the Scimitar, the 1800ES and the 480, particularly about the rear...

I don't know what you "see" when you look at any of these cars, but to me, the heritage is obvious...

But let's leave it at that.

@ murf.....both my door bottoms have blown through, and my rear drivers side arch has blown too....still saveable i think, maybe swap the doors if i find some in good enough condition.

@ gaz....ok dude....no worries....good thing about this place is the fact that people feel they can openly air their views!

Yup, if you take the overall "feel" of the design, quite a few cars had that "long bonnet, flat roof, square bum, glass hatch" look when you hunt around...! The 480 is def more wedgey (as opposed to wedgie! :) ) though!

Incidentally, I spotted a nice-looking 1800ES for sale recently at Tatton car show if anyone is looking - PIC - got a copy of the details if required...

Cheers!
