I might join the fun | 1988, 480 ES

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

...If that search is a perfect 480 you'll need some time...
Agreed. I think in the long run I would really like to experience a well cared for 480. I think they are very special looking cars, as you pointed out earlier its curious they wear a Volvo badge, I would love to park one next to a future 240 in my dream garage. I will keep my eyes open.

Also, I totally hear you regarding normal and repairable wee issues with the interior of the 480. No, the missing cover on the crankshaft belt is not the end of the world, but what it says to me is the previous owners lacked diligence and care when it came to important repairs. What am I inheriting? .

I am keeping my eyes open. Thank you for your input!

I am still looking for... basically any reasonable second hand volvo now. It is tough going over here. Yikes.

Anyway, came across this BEAUTIFUL 480 I thought you'd all enjoy. Why not make a lovely trip of it, fly from Blighty to Bilbao, go take a look and then sail back via Ireland or direct to Portsmouth?

The seller states 80K miles on the clock, its a 480S 1.7 n/a from 1993. Interior looks great. 2 grand in GBPs.

I appear to have p*ssed the seller off by daring to insist he come up with some service history, and get the thing "MOT-ed". NO SOUP FOR YOU! Before I would go and take a look. Perhaps a gamble for someone else who fancies a nice long drive. Bilbao is a fine place to visit, they have a totally bizarre car ferry bridge type thing you'll all love. And some fancy modern art museum if you like that sort of thing.

Anyway. Here is a photo of the 480S on sale, in Bilbao Spain. And a link to the advert on the Spanish marketplace Wallapop.

... in the meantime I am now seriously considering a 460 which makes hardly any sense, but at least I can use it to drive to the next 480 I see advertised!

460? Well, for a start, I see AC - so that's a big tick!

There was an equivalent UK car for sale here, they were asking £2k, so 1k seems a bargain!

There's a bridge like that in Middlesbrough.
Google Middlesbrough Transporter bridge.

Fun fact, back in the 70's Terry Scott of Terry &June fame drove off the end of the bridge and was caught by the safety net just above the water.

ps. in the end I bought 1992 940. Wish me luck finding a nice 480 some day. I was heartened to come by this forum, I really do want to join the fun.

Allow me some classic brick-shaped plodding along in corduroy in the meantime!

hasta luego!
