480 car covers

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Any recommendations? One of my cars is garaged.....but it's a single garage. Hence the request.

Are you thinking of simply dust protection?

For storage, a Carcoon is absolutely great if you have an available electricity supply. It dries the car and then keeps the air circulating, plus trickle charges the battery. Quite pricey - ours was £600 3 or 4 years ago, but a sound investment. I wouldn't recommend it for a car in use as its quite time consuming to put on or pack away.

Opinions are divided on whether an ordinary car cover is a good thing or not. I've had a few, but found them an absolute pain if I've needed the car when the cover was wet.

I bought a Premium Outdoor cover from this lot. Cost nearly £200 with discounts, but does the job, fits well and keeps car bone dry. Only problems are it's not a good idea to roll up a wet cover, and it's not a good idea to put it on a wet car!

Hope that helps!

A bit more than that really - it can get pretty wet and windy here. And I know 480s don't like the wet!

My honest opinion? A wet 480 is better than one under a cover. They're a pain in the Butt to fit, even when strapped in place the wind will cause flapping and flapping leads to paint damage.

Contrary to popular belief, you can make a 480 water tight.

I'm with Sylvia; the Carcoon is excellent for preservation. You can get indoor ones that are slightly cheaper as they don't use the same materials as necessary for outdoors.

I bought mine from Demon Tweeks but it looks like they have somewhat of a wait at present if you are in a rush.

There is a used one listed on eBay at the moment that may be big enough: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186013269202 ... R6CKkbG2Yg

There are other similar products too. One example from this company: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256164193435 ... 101224.m-1

Carcoon do spares for their products if you ever need them.

It does - purchased. Thanks Dave! It's a temporary measure as my new GT will be garaged.
