My beautiful ugly duckling

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Should be straightforward...

Unlike the 480 light units the 440 ones are like many of the later Volvo lights, with clips holding the lens on. So easy to dismantle.

Re the next MOT - my thinking exactly

Many thanks again to Edie for her powers of observation on the internet

The new lights duly arrived and were just as described - great except the plastic parts of the adjusters that hold the screw to the surrounds were broken. It's a more robust set-up than on the 480 lights, but at some point in the history of these particular units it obviously wasn't robust enough...

So, dismantle old units, dismantle new units, take very deep breath, gently refit new reflectors into old surrounds using the existing (still intact) adjuster mountings, fit spotless new lenses with shiny new clips to existing surrounds and voila! Lovely brand new lights :hopping:

Light output and beam is much improved. And it's that usual thing - you can't see how dulled the old reflectors were until you see brand new ones, and they have freshened up the front of the car as well.

So, one thing that won't be a problem next MOT, whatever else may be.

Onwards and upwards!!

Many thanks Edie for your PM. I tried replying but the system tells me you have disabled receipt of PM replies...

Being the ES my 440 has, I am pleased to say, got disc brakes all round. So I really appreciate your kind offer, but I have no use for the items offered!
