Centre caps

So, in amongst my many spares are some 14" 5 spokes - you know, the Pollux ones.
I've also a a set of 4 centre caps. Today i thought i finally put the two together (frees up the tiniest bit of space)
However.....
The centre caps all have a locating pin.
The wheels do not have a hole for said pin.
Now the obvious solution would be to simply grind the offending item off; However it occurred to me that someone may like to trade their damaged pin caps (you know, where the previous owners didn't realise there was a locating pin, so just kept whacking the cap on wondering why it wouldn't seat) for my undamged pin ones?

It's very strange that the wheel would not have a locating hole, is this normal?

no idea! Never looked at the "small" wheels before, as I'm Taurus wheels on all of mine.

Check the part no on the back - page 516 in the parts book will tell you which wheels they are for.

Maybe see what type of wheel it is?
Edit:

You gave me this very link to all the wheels used on the 480

An excellent plan; Part on cap cross-referenced and.....
It's as clear as mud.
It fits all three wheels....

Might it be a part that looks the same on the outside but on the reverse is specialised for each rim type?

the part number is the same; and the book has the same part number.
Now the only other possible thing is that the wheels are the problem.... However, I think they were only fitted to the 480 (and not 340 etc)

The Pollux was also fitted to the 440 and '60, but I assume they are the same part...

mystery continues...
So, the part number 449724 doesn't seem to appear in the 480 parts catalogue (even with the magical 3 in front of it)
And whilst they look like Atlas wheels, they apparently have a part number of 3344651-9

A search on the internet revealed about half a dozen ads for these, mostly on the continent, some saying for the 480, some 440/460. Confused ? Me too.

That is interesting, looks quite nice actually, a cross between a Taurus and an Atlas
I want to say Vega but it isn't

Nooooo! These are Vega's
They're also a 15" wheel. (and absolutely bloody lush!)

Yes Vegas aren't my favourite, but they are very nice. When were they originally available? Any idea on what this mystery wheel is?

This place seems to have the mystery wheel marked down as the "Atlas"

Yeah, atlas they are, but without centre cap holes and a different part number to the 480 Atlas wheels....
Maybe I should stick them on eBay as “rare wheels”

Thank goodness, now I can get back to worrying over mildly important stuff
