480 GT

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

480 GT

Post by cptlingo » Tue Sep 17, 2019 2:49 pm

Is there any way to proof that Volvo 480 is an GT version were they giving some kind of papers on that how to verify this? I am from Europe Edit: I'm trying to buy Volvo 480 GT but seller wants a lot of money only because it's a GT one so how can he give me evidence on that is actually one not fake one?

The UK GT has different leather to any other model - it should look like this

Image

It should have the Vesa wheels, airbag steering wheel and aircon, and be either Racing Green or Flame Red with a 480GT badge on the rear hatch.

If you are looking at one outside of UK we'd need to know which country. In France, the GT is quite common and completely different.

But they weren't giving some kind of paper when first owner was buying it? Or the only way to see if it's a gt it's by its accessories?

You will need a reply from someone in Netherlands or Germany as it varied from country to country. Ours have 480 GT on the V5, which is the document of ownership.

I've emailed a 480 owner in Netherlands and another one in Germany, hopefully one of them will be able to help.

In continental Europe, you have to check the "D.3" field of the registration.
This is my car, a Volvo 480 GT registered in The Netherlands in 1994:
D.1 VOLVO
D.3 480 GT 2.0 I

But really, the GT version in NL is just an option package. It comprises ABS, airconditioning, front fog lights, front spoiler, electrical antenna mast, leather upholstery and height adjustable passenger seat.

Should you find a basic spec Volvo 480, you can retrofit everything with great ease from a scrap car (I know several good sources), except for ABS and airconditioning. ABS is a part that can break, airconditioning is broken in almost all cars and new parts are unavailable.
Robert.

Present cars: 1994 Volvo 480 GT 2.0i, 1999 Volvo S70 2.5 Europa, 2010 Volvo V70 2.0F Momentum

I have heard back from my German contact, he has a customer who can no longer drive so her 480GT (automatic) will probably be up for sale. Very good condition with new rear bumper bar. I can put you in touch if interested.

My Dutch friend confirms what Brinkie said. Here's his reply:

In the Netherlands the used carmarket is booming, the 480 are rising rapidly in value. Not every car is that well maintained also.

A 480 GT is always model year 1994/1995.

Original taurus rims, some GT models have the Vesa-rims like your cars.

Foglights at the front

Airconditioning

Frontspoiler.

ABS (with or without TRACS, both options are possible)

Leather seats, black/grey the slippery one. (2320)

Some are equipped with the more luxery collection leather (2346)

Height adjustable passengerseat.

480 GT Batch at the back

Electric antenna (arial)

Left hand drive.

Al lot of more luxery 480’s (GT’s, Collection editions) are imported from Germany.

It’s carpasport (kentekenbewijs) tells the story.

It is an true dutch car if the date is the same for first registration and date of release “datum eerste toelating” and “Datum eerste afgifte Nederland”

The “D.3 handelsbenaming” says GT.

Somethings can be checked with the VIN-tag.

http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/volvo480/vin_reader.php

The interieurcode shoud be 2320 or 2346.

example of a VIN plaquette

A - Approval code
B - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
C1 - Maximum weight incl. load
C2 - Maximum weight incl. load and trailer
C3 - Maximum load on front axle
C4 - Maximum load on rear axle
D - Code for special vehicles
E - unknown - probably Market code - 23 = Germany, others will follow
F - Paint code
G - Interior code

Colous can be:

314 - Vase Green Metallic

318 - Paris Blue Metallic

319 - Steel Grey Metallic

321 - Dark Green Metallic

322 - Flame Red Metallic

323 - Dark Grey Metallic

239 - White Satin

235 - Red

234 - White
