closest car to a 480? (that isn't a 480)

Good day all

I have been doing some thinking recently, wondering what the 480's competitors would have been when new, as it is such a unique car.
while pondering this, I realised that the Mk4 Toyota Celica is very similar to the 480:
It is front wheel drive, has a hatchback, pop-up headlights, two door coupe, is sportingly oriented, and has 4 seats
however, when it comes to performance, the Celica is much more powerful, meaning that while it shares many features, it would probably be in a different class, or would it? (I am not taking the GT-Four into account)

I know the 480 turbo has been compared with the Golf GTi MkII and Honda Prelude MkII, but those cars seem to be very different from each other, so where does the 480 stand? especially the N/A models

Just some food for thought...

Must admit, I’ve a slight twinge for the MK4 celica, as well as the earlier celica supra.

Now, in terms of appearance, how about this; one of my friends photoshopped a mk1 mr2, extending it to be a shooting brake style car:

That has to be one of, if not the most confusing cars I have ever seen, looks interesting though, but I do not know how the mid-engine bit would work being inside the car (must be unpleasant to be in the back)

it was just a photoshop! Practicalities were never worked out!

Although I can thank it for reminding me about the 480 and the slippery slope I'm now on!

for me it was seeing a strange blue, wedge shaped car overtaking us while driving through Bosnia on our way to montenegro, still the only time I have seen a 480 on the road (that wasn't my one)

Had no idea it had existed before then

reason I bought the first 480 (now onto third) was I'd run a Scimitar previously (Se5a)

but that was BEFORE the 480 appeared . .. . .

So you think the 480 filled the gap left by the Scimitar after its departure in '86? (not counting the Middlebridge)

Yes, I hear the 2.0 is quite torquey, but I quite like the perky 1.7, but that is the only one I have Experience with, so for now I am in no position to compare
