Celebration no.480

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Celebration no.480

Post by zapcity » Sat Apr 06, 2019 6:03 pm

I've heard lots of rumours about the fate of Celebration no.480., so thought I'd set the record straight.

(Sounding like Clarkson!) Some say it was scrapped at Lakes Autos, but all I know is that it is alive and well just down the road from me.

As some of you may know, I tried to buy this a couple of years ago, but without success. However, my mate is now more inclined to sell as he wants to finish his other project (see photos).

It's owned by a lovely gent and 480 nut. Ian has this Celebration, a parts car, a Paris Blue S or ES and a turbo project car plus a Jag S type and van, so is looking to reduce his fleet.

He bought the Celebration a few years ago from a car and claassic ad, and has since started the turbo project. The turbo is a total ground up restoration, so I've included a few pictures (and yes it's a non-Volvo shade of green).

I must apologise for the pictures. I'm crap with a camera, and additionally my phone has a rubbish camera so the pictures are not top quality.

So here is the Celebration: -

Bodywork on the Celebration is very good. Original arches and very little noticable corrosion. Clocks have been changed. Ian has lots of paperwork with the car to confirm its history.

Here's the money shots (for Sylvia records!): -

If anyone is interested in buying, just drop me a line and I will put you in contact with Ian. Asking price is high, but I'm guessing nogotiation will get it somewhere in the right area eventually.

This is indeed one of the very last Volvo 480 that has been built; the last one off the line has number 594018, this one is at 594004.
Robert.

Present cars: 1994 Volvo 480 GT 2.0i, 1999 Volvo S70 2.5 Europa, 2010 Volvo V70 2.0F Momentum

I would like to own this car, but the asking price and my valuation are just too far apart. Oh well we can just wait and hope. :D

Thanks for this Marc - it looks good from the pictures, although I have to ask - what's with the shark-fin aerial on the roof?!

Knowing the asking prices this car has always demanded I can quite imagine it is way above what most people would be in the market for. I quite agree though that it would be a good one to own, especially given Brinkie's information that it is only 14 off the end of total production.

The restoration project car looks as if it will be excellent when done - can't say I go a bundle on that green though, but each to their own!

All the best

Hi David,

Similar thoughts to me!

I forgot to ask Ian about the shark fin. It wasn't on the 2011ish advert. Will find out.

As said previously, no.480 is not really worth any more than no.479 (imho) but you can't blame him for asking. Market prices are still all over the place! I'd buy it on condition only.

Ian's turbo project is very well done. All galvanised except the arb's. Paintwork choices are his own take!

I have some holiday planned around Easter, so planning to get the GT on the road. I've been working away for 6 months (and still am) so it stalled just as I was getting going.

Bruntingthorpe made me realise just how much I want to get it back on the road.

Maybe, just maybe I can get to the next meet. :D
