Who to use for image uploads now discussion?

‎Can I open a discussion please on what image hosters people are considering, now that Photobucket have done what they have done?

As I see it, I have seen three providers mentioned: Flickr, Imgur and Postimg.

Flickr doesn't allow direct links. Although it seems pretty good to use, there are NO direct links available. I.E. No link with. Jpg at the end to use with our [img] phpbb code.

Imgur seems to do exactly what we want and provide direct links that work, they even format it with the [img] code in the link if you want. However, http://imgur.com/tos, their Terms of Service expressly  ‎forbids using the images elsewhere. Avatars in particular are banned; there is nothing specifically mentioned about forums, but the wording is pretty clear, that we can't do it!
Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.‎

‎From what I can work out, Postimg are themselves legit, but are often misused and they themselves admit that their business is shakey and they have no money. If people flock to them after the Photobucket fiasco, their traffic will increase and they'll be out of business too! ‎https://malwaretips.com/threads/postima ... end.64901/

So, what on earth do we do now for images?‎

I have went back to photobox.

I first used it when it was orange-photobox, I only moved to PB when there was an issue posting images several years ago.

Seems to be ok now.

For the moment, I'm using google images.

Uploading images is simple, sharing them, not quite as simple (but once you've got the hang of it, its not too bad).

If you use their "optimised size" you get unlimited storage.

ditto, partly as I'm lazy and partly as I already have a google account but only if my images can be seen by others . .. . .

I'm on Chrome-book so difficult to tell as 'automatically' logged on as me, I guess I could view some trials at work where I'm not logged on and so many fire-walls it can be scary . ..

I'm absolutely devastated. I run a few Diary Blogs for the cars I own, including the 480. They all now have dead images.

It's a massive job to rectify them all with the new IMG links. :cryhard:

Photobucket are really taking the p*ss. I believe if they have to charge, it should a charging structure based on bandwidth used, not a blackmail of $400 per annum regardless.

Problem is, once bitten, twice shy as they say. Who's to say the next free image hoster doesn't pull the same trick?

I can kind of see why they did what they did; Linking to the image meant nobody saw their spam laden adverts.
However.... the ONLY people who are going to pay are the people who, like yourself, have a long history of PB use. II know one friend has paid for a year, but only so he can keep his images up whilst he migrates to a new host.

Overall, I think we'll see Photobucket die and whither away

Hi all

I have tried a website called Imgur and it seems to be working just fine. I did not even have to register or anything, see following thread: http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/v ... =8&t=35370

Haha, I thought all my questions had been answered with MediaFire. It seems pretty good and even has a proper BB10 app, but I can't seem to get the upload to work from my phone.

Can anyone else take a look and see what they think of them? I see no image compression and direct links that work as a big plus!

They look like a dropbox competitor? Will try and have a look and see; Google images seems to be working well for me (as long as I remember to add stuff to the shared album!). Unlimited compression photos, 15gb of uncompressed.

I need to know the answer to this too. Damn you photo bucket for ruining every forum! :dispute: It's a shame you can't just uploads direct to this forum like I can in another forum I am in, it's so simple!

Personally I use IMGUR. It is free and you upload the pics you want to share, resize and share.

You get a BB code for message boards and forums.

Yes - I also need to deal with this and get the photos up from Saturday - although most of mine are like the ones already on here I'm the one with the photos of all the owner/drivers/passengers!

A snippet of info I have found out recently.

You can restore the image if you edit the post and add ~original to the link.

Would be good to update the posts which have been affected but a bit of work, I have done it on another forum.

Now THAT’S a cracking tip.... wonder how long before PB work it out and block that too....

has something chnaged with the web site.

I used to put the photos for uploading into a 'shared folder'
open the SHARED folder, open/select the photo
right click and 'get image address'
paste this between the 'image' logo

now the OLD posts do appear (eg the cars at Cove in 2018 Scotland mini meet) and the TPS, but the ones of the 480 in gargae under 'Nora' don't appear, only the text 'image'

I'm doing something wrong . .. . .

Ah, I’ve always used get image address on GP.
