Blinky 51/480

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

frustrating today, garage was closed for a local holiday and I had to head south for work so will need to wait until next week.

Unfortunately that is a full test as out of my 10 days by then. I will have two tests to do when I am off now.

Least I know it is in good shape.

Good news, MOT passed today.

When I was in I asked about the weight used for the brake test and comes from VOSA and printed on the testers note sheet.

The Figure was 1210KG, Armed with the handbook I showed him the Kerb weights of the 480 and none are 1210kg. I thought it might be a typo somwhere as my car is 1020kg kerb weight in the handbook.

Worth keeping in mind if anyone is struggling with the handbrake on MOT day.

I am going to sort out dome squeeks and rattles.

One the list is exhaust hanger rings, I have searched for the correct size detsils but can't find anything. skandix

To save be pulling one off does anyone know the size of the middle hanger rubbers?

thanks

There were some NOS REAR ones on eBay that were for 200 and 400 series. You are right it is difficult to get the rubbers to get the exhaust hanging spot on some times. Maybe on these parts sites (Mister Auto, AutoDoc, etc.) have a look for 200 series stuff and you will find a ring that fits both. Like a few of the 300 series things, they lifted some common parts from the 200 series too I think.

I can't think of any examples right now. Very much off on a tangent: I remember that an early car needed a 200 series rdio wiring harness adapter when I looked years ago and have seen the very early radio in 200 series when visiting scrap yards.

I think.... and its only a think a 50mm one (which has an external diameter of 60mm, internal of 35mm, 13mm thick) is the one....

I had a look at the French lenses and as lovely as they are I cant justify that spend.

Have a mint passenger side one (maybe could sell that too fund the lenses  ) and a really bad drivers in my spares pile.

Have started a little experiment with some resin on my duff spare, I have thought about it in the past but never progressed beyond the thinking stage.

I cracked the lens and the top corner fell off, used some sticky back plastic to get me going.

It wasn't the best lamp unit to begin with.

It has been a long time since my last post.

Due to the restrictions and work I haven't been able to get to the car which is stored at a friends.

Luckily today I managed to get down and change out the broken rear lamp, thanks to a kind forum member who sold me good second hand one.

I was rather surprised to the lamp unit half full of water. It was then I noticed a hole which was a bit of a light bulb moment.

Did Volvo actually design the lamps to drain into the boot?

Fitted a new battery, Yuasa 027 which I have been tripping over for weeks.

Hopefully the next few weeks will let me get some miles on the clock.

Will also need to make an effort to try and advertise it for sale. This lockdown has taken its toll on my free time and I havent used any of my cars as I would like. I think it is the right time for a new custodian.

Sad to report but blinky is now under new ownership.

Hopefully he will get the TLC it deserves.

It has been good being the custodian for the last 4 years and the forum has been invaluable.

I will able to put my time into my 1960's British cars that have been awaiting restoration time.

And a new home is found.

I am now the proud owner of Blinky.

I am based not far from Colin. I am a long time member and long time lurker. It's great to be back in a wedge. Hopefully will be able to join in some adventures soon

I wont disappear altogether, I quite like the idea of being able to take advantage of a rescue car for meets if there is one available.

Which reminds me I should make another contribution to the fund :hopping:

Lovely fairtale ending ! I don't doubt that Colin will be back in a 480 of his own at some point in the future, but meanwhile a rescue car could possibly be arranged and it's great to know that Blinky is safe and John happily back in wedgeland.

As you no doubt know, the pot is seriously depleted at the moment, so donations would be greatly appreciated. Far too many buses for comfort but once the cars are gone there is no bringing them back.
