It lives...sort of...

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Don't the lights rattle round horribly and annoy everyone in front of you without the gas struts in?

Well, yes, and no!

These gears are probably some industrial standard. I have sent my scrap motors to a guy who has more knowledge of mechanical engineering than I have. He will try and find a way to make the motors new again.

It is quite some work to take them apart. There is some sort of coating surrounding the motor and the cap is riveted to the motor housing, so you have to drill it out.

The rattling what you hear is actually the gears crunching. They have to take the full weight of the headlight and can't cope with the stress.

That's interesting Robert, I've never seen inside one of the light motors. In fact, i've never had pop-up trouble except with my current car which is a little noisey.

I just got two dampers delivered from Sweden, then remembered that you need four on the car! Damn!
The rattling around I referred to was something I've on all 480's I've had. I meant how the lights can be seen bouncing/vibrating on far away road signs not rattling on worn gears when in motion. New gas struts always seem to fix this for me.

I wonder if the person who does 3D printing for the other 480 parts could print us up some gears? Who is this again?

I do have a contact for 3D-printing but I need the measurements on the gear.

Do someone have the inner and outer measurements of the gear?
