new member chuffed to bits with his 480!!!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

new member chuffed to bits with his 480!!!

Post by johnnyvolvo » Sun Apr 25, 2004 6:58 pm

hi folks just thought i'd say hello.I'm new to the 480 scene and can't belive what a great car i have been missing out on all these years(i've been driving all sorts)
I have just picked up a 1990 480 turbo in reasonable condition (well a ccouple of blown lights thant i've fixed and the obligatory info centre fault!!! )for only £250(gbp)
Well i'm sure i'll be picking your brains for help and info on meetings mods and general repairs, and if i can be of any use anyone in the u.k. feel free to ask (well thats what forums are for isn't it?)
so if anyone can tell me how to sort my info centre it would send me off on the happy road of 480 ownership!!!! :hopping:

The First thing to Check is the Contacts at the back of the Dash, and the Bulb in the InfoCentre, The Bulb is a special Halogen Bulb and if not working the whole infocentre does not appear to work

Welcome to the 480 'it's a way of life'

As far your info centre have a look at the threads in technical, having said that, i've tried all sorts and still it has a mind of its own.

Will work fine first thing in a morning about 5.30am so nothing is blown or faulty, yet later in the day Nothing ,dead as a dodo :cryhard:

Thinking about dash removal but not just yet.

are anyone elses instrument cluster plugs really tight? i think this is why my infocentre occasionally (every few months in the wet) switches of and speeds wobbles like mad if i hoolagan it at 90 now and again. pulling them on and off 4/5 times seems to have caused this no matter how careful i've been (was a bit rough first time).

was thinking of filing the plugs slightly or widening the sockets when i fit my car phone kit. and advice/reccomendations??

well have changed info centre switch but to no avail
it looks like the dash is comming out then (not looking forward to that one)
and also does anybody know the range i can get out of my 1.7tubos fuel tank (i do a lot of milage and stopping every five mins to put fuel in is a bit annoying,i'm paranoid about it running out!!)
thanks guys you have all been a great help so far another couple of problems to sort out and it'll be ready to start showing off

depends how you drive but with the early small fuel tank cars you usually get between 350 and 400 miles.
with the 60L tanks you get more, unless you put your foot down!
funny but my turbo seems to be much more fuel efficient than my 1.7,maybe because i dont have to cane it as much!?
