electric 480?!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

electric 480?!

Post by Captain Slow » Tue May 03, 2011 5:18 pm

Currently failing to do any work so I thought I'dd do a little search of ''volvo 480'' and came across this page:

http://www.volvoracing.co.uk/cars/volvo-480

Halfway down, in the prototypes section it claims there was a 480 with an electric drivetrain  Has anyone any knowledge of this? I've never seen anything on this site or elsewhere

Yes, back in the day volvo experimented with the electric engine:

According to volvo top speed is 118 km/h and range is 120 km. Battery charge time is around 45 minutes, and in the first 15 minutes of charging the batteries already hold 50% capacity due to innovative rapid-charge system.

Those figures you quote would still be pretty good by today's standards, particularly the charge time
