Ok. Going home to collect my turbo and bring it back to Wycombe with me in the next week or so.

I still have a soaked passenger footwell after sealing the back lights. I'm 95% sure its not the rear light clusters still leaking as i did them pretty thoroughly.

I'm not going to have anywhere good up here to do any work on my car, so i'd like to sort the leak before I bring it back.

Can people do me a favour and recap on all the possible causes and cures they've ever found for leaking 480's / soaked footwells.

Much appreciated. I'm sure this might be helpful for others also who just put up or have got used to the onboard foot spa.

Not in any order, and not necessarily exhaustive, I know of:

1) the chamber behind the bukhead, blocked drain holes and/or failed seals on the relay box/fan inlet/wire loom holes.

2) Sunroof

3) the roof sealing rubber, under the plastic trim above the rear side windows.

4) Tailgate seal

5) rear light clusters

6)Windscreen(on mine before i had it replaced)

7)possible leaking heater matrix??

Time for a multipack of silicone? ;)

Just spent a while completely stripping my mates new 480 to dry it out, replacing the carpets from my old car, and sealing all possible points of water ingress. It hasn't been outside yet(lowering it first ;) ) so fingers are still crossed. :)

On mine it comes from the little holes near the heater entry under the bonnet.

The heater wasn't properly fixed and the water goes through these littles holes direct on the passergers foot

PS i got a left hand drive car.

I just put silicone and i have no more water :hopping:

loose jubilee clips onto the heater matrix.

Well, it's just the tailgate rubber seal. Was absolutely soaked in the rear passenger footwell. Seems someone had tried to fix it with sillicone before, but it's not working now.

I took the seal, bent it all open and picked out all the old adhesives and sillicone, and cleaned it with solvents, then flattened it and replaced it... It's much better, but seems to be leaking in a different place when we did the garden hose test.

Think I need a new rubber seal. Any ideas on prices?? I'm sure it need not be original volvo as it's just a straight strip, with the ends bonded. Halfords dont sell any though...

Also found about half a beach worth of sand under the carpet. Have no idea how that could have got there???? Strange.

Its not too expensive from Volvo (can't give an exact price)

However if you want to try elsewhere, try

Woolies

Somewhere betweeh £40 and £45 when I enquired. I'd do what Dave suggested, and get it Woolies if I were you - It's bound to be cheaper (probably much cheaper!)

Cheers for the tips and links peoples. Woolies sounds good, but a tad far and i'd like to get it done tomorrow. I'm hoping one of my local car places will have some...

I also didn't realise there is meant to be a rubber washer / seal type thing surrounding the boot lock in the centre rear light thing. Mine is missing. Fills up with water, but cant go anywhere due to plenty of sillicone!

I've finally got sick of mopping out my back nearside footwell every few days and am trying to cure my leaking issues. I've already got some taillight seals on order from Joep in the Netherlands. I think a new boot seal is in order too. Does anyone know what type and length of trim to order from Woolies? I'm afraid I've run into novices disease again...

Somewhere else to look out for especially if it’s the nearside rear footwell are the seals at each end of the cable (and the cable) that runs from the roof into the tailgate.

If it’s leaking into the roof the water will run down a channel in the roof into the nearside C pillar and comes out in the nearside boot area.

If it’s leaking into the tailgate the water runs down the inside of the tailgate and comes out from the hole by the nearside window heater connector and into the nearside boot area.

The water then collects under the nearside rear seat, in the nearside rear footwell and with the spare wheel and tool kit.
