480 lives again!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

480 lives again!

Post by spree » Thu Jan 06, 2011 6:48 pm

My 480 broke down with a serious oil leak a few months back and I was lucky not to seize the engine as I was on the motorway and only pulled over to get petrol!

I haven't had the time to get it fixed until now....turned out it was the oil return hose from the turbo.

Apparently volvo no longer supply this hose according to my mechanic and he had to get it made up as it has a sharp kink in it and couldn't just make a hose fit...seems crazy that volvo are stopping so many parts for these cars. I know they are old but it's a bit stingy!

Anyway, I'm very happy that it only cost me £65 to get it back on the road and it's a joy to drive after my sister in law's honda civic that she kindly lent me.

Go Tom the Turbo! :kill:

For reasons not understand by real human beings Volvo stopped sales of parts for the 480.
after over 10 years parted with the 1995 Volvo 480 ES 2.0

Ford sold Volvo's parts division for the older models to a private company (Genuine Classic Parts ) when they took over Volvo . They produce plenty new parts for the Amazon, 1800, 140-160, 200 and 700 series which are sold through the dealer network or from their own website. But alas not for the 400 series. So it's not Volvo which takes the decision to stop manufacturing parts for the 480. When the Volvo's own NOS is sold out and GCP thinks it's not economical to produce new stock we're left out in the cold.

That really sucks. How do you get bits for these cars then when they break?
