Info centre-Strange or Not ?

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Info centre-Strange or Not ?

Post by rhigga » Thu Oct 21, 2010 9:32 pm

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping someone can give me advice ,
Last night I had occasion to use the 480 in temperatures of just 2 degrees for the first time.
I started up as normal, the Info center said OK as usual then without changing the setting ( I keep it on the fuel gauge )
It jumped straight to the outside temp setting showing 2 degrees and with a red bar. I had to change it back to the fuel gauge setting
and the red bar remained on the temp setting. After stopping and restarting, the setting once again jumped to the outside temp on its own,
showing 2 degrees.

Question ,Is this a normal thing to happen or is the IC playing up in cold temperatures.Has anyone experienced this ?

Info Centre informs about the risk, independently of the position of switch.

yes if temperature drops below 4 degrees Celcius then it shows the red bar and defaults to temp that is entirely normal.

And then you can play games by having low fuel so it displays the red bar/warnings for that at the same time, so the temp and fuel start fighting for who gets to use the digital display :D

And if the temparture drops below -5c the warning light goes out again. So it only warns between +4 and -5c. Volvo thought that the warning becomes irritating if you look outside the window, ice and snow everywhere and your display is telling you that it may be slippery...
