mot failure

Ok...so I'm having a bad day. The celeb failed it's mot...rear brakes, which I knew were dodgy, handbrake, snapped front spring, number plate bulb (done that now) and emissions. The emissions were done on lpg, so I'm going back to get them to test on petrol and see if it's still bad, if not then I'll take it to some gas people to check out...... but I have other issues that worry me.

When driving with the windows down you can smell fumes, but the exhaust is ok and under the bonnet is ok too. I get loads of heat coming from behind the dash, and also a very very hot smell (kinda like curry oddly)...not all the time but occasionally.

I think the car is running rich...on lpg certainly and petrol probably too....it definitely smells like it anyway. Anyone got any idea at all about what could be going on here?? I thought it was because the downpipe needed replacing, but it's just the same...if not worse with the new one!

Also it has an upgraded rear engine mount which Adam said needed adjusting as it causes major shaking in the car. I have had someone look at it and they said you can't adjust it....and maybe as it isn't a standard 480 engine mount it might not have enough damping effect so the engine is shaking the whole car

I know most of the fails are fairly easy to sort, but the fume issue is really worrying me. It can't be healthy....maybe the reason why I'm feeling so fed up with this 480 already

Well,I took it back to be tested on petrol...and it sailed through, so the lpg is at fault. The guys at the garage I went to suggested the fumes could be coming in through the boot where the pipes for the lpg come through, but after having a look they look sealed in quite well.

Goning to get the lpg looked at next week, in the meantime I'll stick to good old petrol

Hi Rachel,

I havent been on here for a while so only just noticed your posts.

I had a problem with excessive fumes, turns out the back box had split behind the heat sheild and was pushing the fumes up into the vents in the bottom of the boot (behind the plastic covers) maybe worth a check.

Anyway, it's deffo worth checking out, although the exhaust has just passed the mot...I guess they would have picked it up if it was split...maybe not though.

Did you get fumes with the windows closed? I only notice it with the windows open

Ok....thanks for the great enthusiasm but finally we have passed the mot. I got reconditioned rear calipers, new hand brake cable and 4 new springs...I went for lowered springs in the end which are great. I love the lower ride, generally much better all round...even with these country roads....I just wish it would dry out a bit for some proper fun

I also just received my modded info center switch from Djurre in the Netherlands.....it looks great....as it should be in my eyes....thanks very much for that Djurre.....

Happy wedging all.....I even saw another 480 today...drove behind it too for a while, but the owner....old couple.... where totally oblivious

It was rocky for a while though what with having to say goodbye to the Turbo and Richmod, but each little thing I get done on the Celeb is helping the love grow for the 2 litre. Passing the mot and lowering her 40mm has definitely helped...I'm loving the lower ride Just need to get the nose cone sorted out now and front bumper scrapes...we'll get there eventually
