LED Daylight running bulbs

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

LED Daylight running bulbs

Post by rhigga » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:00 pm

Hi all, Recently I purchased some LED bulbs ( as sold on Ebay ) to replace the standard daylight running bulbs. Thing is,they are supposed to be very long lasting and very bright etc. Somewhere I thought I read that these bulbs can interfere with the earth settings and cause problems with the main light pop ups. Has anyone tried these bulbs as a replacement.Everything works fine with the pop ups at present and I am wondering whether to risk it.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated... :hopping:

I dont think any of us use anything but the recommended 21/4 w 12v with the offset filament, dont take any chances on upsetting your 480's equilibrium, you will reget it.....hahahahahahhahaaaaa (sinister laughter)

Yeah.....but......the standard bulbs roast the living hell out of the plastic in the now impossible to buy new clear front indicator and running lights. Not a good situation at all.

I was going to ask this exact same question about what led's people have used as I do know that some people are using them.

I think its a very good idea that I will implement when I replace my knackered one's.

Better set the rotation lightswitch at pos.1 so the drl are burning at 4w while driving. That way the bulbs don't get hot and can't roast the plastic. I wouldn't take my change on replacing them with leds, that's asking for trouble and they will probably not fit either.

Good god you people are no use! :-P

I actually make and sell a whole led dash conversion kit for the Celica GT4 so I am sure I can figure this one out...

Watch this space. :-)

I am certain martin holmes ran leds for a while but he has left the forum now.

There is also a member in St Andrews Scotland who sells these things and runs them in his 480 , cant remember his name but he does not have a lot of posts ,.

maybe capt.Slow will have his name.

Yeah he did, but they didn't fit properly and they broke when trying to remove them (after being pulled over cause they were too blue  ) This was a while ago so maybe you can get ones which fit properly now.

Think he might be abit before my time in st andrews/on the forum :(

The only two in St. Andrews that I can think of is ''koiman'' who has a white celeb which has seen better days and ''Greg-Mitchell'' who was selling his 480 just as I bought lula in aug 09, dont think either of these would have made the LED drls?
