Difference between ES and GT

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

The specifations varied by country and modelyear.

The first S in the Netherlands (1992) still had the infocentre and had colourcoded bumpers, it only lost the alloy wheels and fog lights.
While the french S didn't have colour coded bumpers. Some german S have ABS as standard.
It is really difficult to index all the differences.

The sports suspension was an accesoire (progressive springes lowering of 25-30mm), Im not aware that the GT had a 'sports/ lowered' suspension.
It had the front spoiler though and as an option the turbo engine. GT-turbo package.

The french 480 club has some brochures on the (continental) GT.

When i got my insurance i put my reg in the system and it said it was a GT...but on the back of the car its down as an ES
I'm kinda stumped lol
I have discussed this before somewhere, the DVLA messed up a load of V5s and wrongly labelled many ES's as GTs!
The main features of a GT:
Only in dark metallic red or dark metallic green
Full leather interior with hand printed block printing
Vesa 15" lattice style alloys
If its not got any of that (unless obviosuly someone has changed the alloys!) then its not a real GT!! :hopping:

If your cars came from Germany they should have had a Fahrzeugbrief (Kfz brief) and that should tell you the exact model.

Because apparently the DVLA NEVER mess up...
I know, I can hear you laughing!
Someone did try to inform them and they said they werent wrong, but its not the only time they have been wrong, I have seen a Jaga couple of cars that have claimed they are something that they most definately were not! But sadly we cant argue with the powers that be...*shrug*

Haha! Esta is of course right.

The DVLA messed up in a lot of cases with the ES GT thing.

Certain members have angered us in the past by trying to 'convert' and sell an ES as a GT, with the help of their eronious logbooks...

also the flipside where ebay has auto-filled the model as a GT when its an ES, and then everyone has emailed them to moan. - not their fault really!!

Of course what nobody expected back then was that it would actually be the Turbos that held the value.

MY skyline was down as a GTR...and my friend's Glanza was down as make:- Toyota, Model:- 1.3

Rich had the volvo sports suspension. It was a small lowering and bilstien shocks i think.
Past:
94 Turbo - Red
94 Turbo - Black (Converted from NA 2.0)
92 Turbo - Red
90 Turbo - Silver
Now:
00 Exige
15 GKD Legend
16 Skoda Superb

Yeh as for those on eBay, the genuine sellers are really good when you tell them that their GT they are selling is actually an ES. The ones trying to make some money by selling as a rare GT not an ES really get one on them when you tell them!!
And yes, it IS the turbos holding the value. I guess the GT is only really a "comfort" trim (if that!) whereas the Turbo is about speed, which is really what people want these days!
