New UK owner - Hi all

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

New UK owner - Hi all

Post by Tael » Wed Jan 06, 2010 7:03 pm

Hello all, from the cold flat east (Norfolk).

Just brought a 480, '95 celeb. Been after one for a while, just missed out on a couple (when a good one appears it seems it doesnt take long to find an owner!). Then saw this, and the towbar and roofbars clinched it for me that I had to try to get and see it.

Here's a pic, (its snowing and dark here at mo so the ad picture that led me to it will have to do for now till i can take some of my own at the weekend)

Didnt take the celeb alloys (owner had both those, and some std 480 ones fitted) as I think they do nothing for the looks - besides a colleague has a pile of 4x100 wheels so may well have some others on it soon

Oh and it will now be referred to as 'Nelson' for the obvious reason following

Its Celeb 111/480

So hello again and I expect ill be along to pick you brains about all I find wrong!
The list isnt too bad at the mo - tiny bit of damp in rear, so i'll haveto fix the tailgate seal that someone has 'fixed' in the past with silicone, oh and the keyhole lights dont work....thats about it so far (fingers crossed) drove a dream the 75 miles, comp reckoned i got 36.5mpg home too :) which was a pleasant suprise..

Edit : well you will haveto wait for the pics as it wont let me post them for 7 days!

Welcome, Tael; damp in the rear, almost certainly not tailgate seal, but rear light clusters. Lots of help available here, just ask.

Hmmm. Discovered this morning that iceblue fresh snow makes the otherwise lovely Satin White paint look like bloody magnolia!! :?

Not its best look so may wait for the snow to bugger off before trying any arty shots

Cheers Grafi

Those are the ad pics that led me to it.

They show the celeb alloys, but I didnt have them in the end, as mentioned earlier. Had Atlas's on and TBh I prefer how they look. The 6 spokers may have been 'correct' for a celeb but god they look gash IMO.

Keeping my eye out for something interesting wheels wise. (Ren 19 turbines, the 2nd type, is an idea floating round my head at mo.....)

Right got to take some pics this morning. Added to the Flickr set on Grafi's ohsohelpful post above.

Yes I know its absolutely filthy too, but with the slush and salt/grit knee deep on the roads round here couldnt be helped.

The very last pic is my current solution to the rear sealing :D damp what damp

Only been in there a day or so, and need to slit plastic bag up properly and set them, but not been any condensation on rear side windows since put in there!

Its only to dry it out so i can fix seal, lamps are well sealed with bathroom silicone but theres def a split in the tailgate seal at the top, and its been bodged as can be seen in other pic.

I'm assuming that as they all seem to go eventually, by now new seal parts are unobtainium?
