480's in Ireland...FAO Irish Members

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

I have

95-D-95 - fairly good nick - certainly road-going but undergoing a few repairs and so I have it in storage.
93-KE-2115 - Body not great because some little shitheads bent the door back and the broke lights. But engine and everything else are in great condition because a friend of mine spent 18 months getting it up to great condition a couple of years back.

So I'll have 95 on the road again next year - all spruced up and showroom condition

Anyone else still knocking around in the Emerald Isle - we still have our 480, although it is definitely a little worse for wear at this stage.....

I am still driving my '93 two tone. I also recently heard of another unaccounted on the road example near Youghal.
But if I was to hazard a guess I'd say the number of road legal 480's is down to 10 or less.

I think you're probably right there - I might see the odd one every year or so knocking around Dublin - very rare....

Sounds like a very good and sensible start. Welcome.

(There are no shoes by the way‎. The rear handbrake is slightly out of the ordinary in that you have to wind the calipers back. Pretty much every 480 I've had needs it adjusted come MOT time.)

watch / take care of the pipes at the fuel filter!

the valve clearance isn't straight forward as it means pulling the cam-shaft AFTER you've checked all the clearances then looking for shims/ buckets.
dunno if the shims are still available :D

Thanks James for the info on the handbrake adjustment technique

Alan, all noted, especially the fuel filter lines, being a Renault engine I had assumed parts would be easily come by?

Thanks, Patrick

No problem.

All the service bits are easily available, including fuel filters. Alan is only warning you because the B-nuts are exposed under the car so you need to be careful of corrosion

Well here we are, spent today in Kinsale and Cork, now staying overnight in Macroom before heading off to Killarney in the morning. We left the turbo at home and came in the green GT. Have been looking but not seen any other 480s yet.
