480's in Ireland...FAO Irish Members

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

No thats a new one, thats why its so hard to judge how many are out there, they tend to just pop up
675 is more realistic price wise aswel..mywheels.ie isnt giving out NCT information anymore and it doesnt give a last tax date for this either so its hard to judge if its roadworthy
But it looks clean and low mileage....you know you want to David !

I certainly do want to! However I just sold a near mint (body wise at least) Celeb for less than that...my girlfriend would murder me!
The tax/insurance disc on left of windscreen hints at a UK import - it's one of the 'singular' British ones rather than the fat rectangular Irish ones. Hard to tell though...

Haven't seen another 480 on irish roads for a long time. Saw a two-tone around Carlow a few times but that was a good while ago, think it was a galway reg.

I remember also there was a 95D95 for sale a while ago, cant remember which website but looked pretty nice if i recall, anyone know anything bout it?
Yep thats mine, its 93g346 2 tone es, getting a bit of work done at the mo.

Also the guy i bought my 2 tone from had just bought a celeb model in grey, lives in Dublin, cant remember his name but also mad about 480's, i had a white 88 at the time which i think is now dead, and there was another 94 green ES 2.0 which was burnt out whick my brother in law brought in from the UK.

Hows it going. I saw your two-tone parked outside Supermacs in Carlow about a year ago. I got such a shock that I pulled in behind it in the '91 ES I was driving at the time to have a look - it looked mint.

They seem to be coming out of the woodwork at the moment, the super expensive S is back on carzone with a reduced price and possible different seller...now 4k instead of 5k

Hi all, just spotted this.

We have had a 480 in the family for many years. I drove it myself for years before handing down to my parents. They like it but are thinking about the upgrade to the big sister C30 now.

I upgraded myself to another relatively rare machine - the Mitsubishi FTO GPX - a great car. Have been driving one of these for 11 years now.

www fto-ireland dot com

Anyhow, here are the details

White 90-D-464XX 480 ES, Location Loughrea Co Galway
Mileage : Probably about 140,000
Mods : Not a one...

Pat480 - I wonder did we buy daytime driving lenses from you a good few years back ?

Is there ever any Ireland meets or am I taking the p here ???
[Present]
'09 Audi A5 2.0 TDI quattro S-Line Special Edition Silver
'04 Audi A4 Avant 1.9 TDI S-Line Blue
'95 Mitsubishi FTO GPX 24v V6 Silver

[Past]
'90 Volvo 480 ES White

Hi Kace and welcome

Pushing towards 20 known road worthy examples and on a 90 plate so one of the earlier ones.
If i had the money i probably could be tempted by a C30 especially the ones with the 156 euro annual road tax but i much prefer the looks of the new VW Scirocco

I have always liked those FTOs, very aggressive styling, i think new pedestrian safety design laws mean low noses like the FTO's and the 480's are firmly a thing of the past.

As regards Irish meets...none solely for the 480 that i know of but the Volvo Owners Club do have occasional meets and they had one in Mullingar recently

No it wasnt me who sold ye the lights anyway

Probably the nice but overpriced 95-D-95 that was on the missing list for the last while...

Yes that fits the profile of 95-D-95 perfectly
An ok price if its in excellent condition

The white S, is still on carzone....now reduced by another 500 euro to 3.5k
It needs to drop to under 2 to be realistically priced though

Get any leads on the whereabouts of your old 91 ES yet, David?

No unfortunately not :cryhard:
Wish I didnt sell it now but it had to be done at the time. Hopefully it will crop up at some stage.

There's quite a few for sale at the moment...nothing that would quite tempt me back into the market just yet though. Mind you, if I came across a nice Turbo I'm not so sure I could hold back.

Speaking of which, it's strange how there hasn't been a Turbo spotted in Ireland yet...

This one has just turned up for sale on donedeal, looks a bit tatty, but not giving it a wash doesn't help either.
It has an unusual sticker running the length of the car, has painted ? red rear lights (how would the reverse lights work?), the wheels are not to everybody's tastes (mine anyway) and the front fog-lamps look aftermarket aswel, they also claim it needs work for its NCT (MOT)

It would be a brave purchase but I hope it's saved and doesnt end up on the scrapheap

Hi Pat,

This is I think the same car I test drove before I bought my first 480. Dear God what has been done to it!!
I might enquire to see if he's giving it away, which he should in that bastardised condition. However words like 'collectable' and ''rare' usually translate to 'ridiculously overpriced'...

Okay enquired about price to which I got 'not much'. Think its gonna be scrapped if it isnt sold in the next week. Thing is I'm in Arklow at the moment...alot of hassle headin down.
There's a decent enough ES up for ages on Donedeal too, low milage...

The three 480's in Limerick have been readvertised...now only two...http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1146623
I think the black one was pretty much beyond repair so guessing that it has gone to 480 heaven, so minus one on our list!

The blue automatic will be mine tomorrow, getting back in to the scary world of 480 ownership for the third time!
