Today I got a step closer to finishing the car. I also replaced the rear shocks as the wheels were still off the car. Front shocks will be done next week.
New shock:

Old shocks, they must have been replaced before as the brand of the shocks is Gabriel:

I also installed the rear lights. And found out that making a photograph of the rear with a flash doesn't work :

The last photo is of the rear without a flash. As you can see at the rear the Taurus wheels are already on again. The only part missing in the photo is the sidemarker, which I broke when trying to install it. One of the plastic retaining clips broke of.

Today I finished assembling the car. A few things needs to be done, but I can drive the car again One thing that needs to be done is the attaching the sill plates (Thanks to LASEROWL). On the photo it's laying loose. I think double sided tape (special for installing trims on cars) would be the best to attach it. I'm not sure if I like the red 'Volvo' or if I'll put some black foil underneath it to make the letters black. Anyone good with photoshop to color the letters?


As a finishing touch I've bought a used, but in very good shape, Volvo logo for on the nosecone. As it is the finishing touch, I haven't attached it yet but will do that after the black stripes are on That will be done tuesday.


A few pictures of the car to see how it looks when every part is on again. Don't look at the tape on the mirrors, I had just installed the mirror covers using a few drops of glue as there were no clips anymore on the covers.




After it has been in the garage for more than a week and it didn't rain, ofcourse it did when the car was outside again:


The to-do list is at this moment reduced to:
-attach the front Volvo logo
-install the new front shock absorbers
-changing the bulb that is lighting the light switch, it has died for some reason during time it wasn't used

I will post more photo's this week when the black stripes are on.

Yes it is. It's a one pillar lifting device. It has a platform on the pillar where you can drive you car on and put rubber blocks underneath the lift points. You can lift the car up for about 1.6m I think. It's a photo of the car spray shop. I have placed such a device on my wish list for when I have a house with garage in the future

It is possible. Look at how my red looked in the beginning of this topic. It costs a serious amount of money and even more time if you try to do as much as possible yourself. I saved money for it for some time. The decision was to have this work done or to buy another 480. I think this was a bit more expensive than buying another 480, although a good 480 without rust and well equiped won't be cheap either. And I like this car and want to keep it, then the investment in amount of money may be more than the economical value of the car.

I think it looks better than any new car under £20,000 at the moment. I looked at new cars briefly but they are all boring i've decided!

I've never seriously looked at new cars, as I have not the money for it. Maybe in a few years I will come to the same conclusion as you.

Ofcourse I did. Last week it still was a sand road there. This resulted in that my new painted car looked like this:



So, I paved the road and parking space and washed the car

The parking space is public and was repaved as a tree was removed some time ago. This tree made the pavement to come up and to be very uneven.

As for the lowering. I also like the car as it is now. Maybe a small drop of 20-30mm would look very nice. As long as it doesn't affect the comfort. There are so many speed bumps here. From the main road to the house is less than 500m and contains 5 speedbumps, some very steep.

I finished the car a bit more today. I placed the sill plates I got from LASEROWL with black foil underneath it to make the 'Volvo' black.



And I've put the German 'Enviromental Plate' on the windscreen. It's a adhesive pad for on the inside and is needed to enter some German city centers. I needed one for the holiday. My '89 Turbo could get the highest green class and I can enter every city center now

I let my girlfriend pay for the holiday No, ofcourse I pay my part myself. Last year I did a full time study and also worked 60hours a month, so I have saved some money for the holiday.
