Insurance prices.

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

It will be the points that are giving her that price.

My first car when I was 18 was a 53hp hatchback thing, and that was £1300. I reckon the 340 would be similar.

That's crazy  I had 3 points for speeding, and although I'm much older, it never really changed my premium. That's just silly money.

My points dont affect me! I have dont quotes with and without to see the difference and there was no difference in price at all! Its only when you get more than 3 that the insurance premium starts kicking in...!!!

The Volvo @ 22y/o 4NCB girly is under £300 and the Jaguar (4 litre!) is £360, both fully comp *grins* Being female rules!!

Being older, and female, is what gives you this advantage.

I have a mate who's 1.3 Fiesta went from being £1000 to completely uninsurable after 3 points were added to his license.

I am 22, and have 4 years NCB and no naughty marks, and I pay £49 a month on a 3.0 V6. Teehee.

That's pretty mental...

My first car was a 1.6 Cavalier, that cost me £600 to insure 10 years ago.

Now I have almost 8 years no claims never had an accident and no points, I've just insured my new insurance group 20 motor :D for £500 fully comp. :hopping:

Rural address helps too.

My insurance in Devon was about 100 or so less than living in Brum! Its purely based on likelyhood of theft where I live tho whereas as good ol' Devon we all left our cars unlocked!

I'm currently paying £535 with Direct Line for my 2.0L 480. I'm a 24 yr old male with 7yrs' driving experience but only 1yrs' no claims ('cos of being on someone else's insurance 'til now) and I live in deepest darkest Gateshead. Having said that I did shop around before renewing and the Quote Me Happy people definitely didn't - a laughable £1700! When I asked them about it they said, and I quote "we just don't want to insure you".
My first car - 1993 2.0L ES red, 112000 at purchase. Yay!

I'm with direct line too, around £550 with interest, break down cover all that stuff on a turbo, 25 with a few years company no claims. Direct Line have this queer notion that a thatcham alarm needs fitting for theft insurance - so NOT recommended.

Yes! They are daft! They are so fussy about what counts as proof! I sent off photocopies of my alarm handbook and for the Volvo I Sent off what Volvo printed off from me, and that was not proof enough!! They didnt say it had to be Thatcham to me, but said I had hto have proof of what was fitted. Volvo said it was fitted as standard and their is nothing they can do to prove this! I spoke to Adrian Flux who I am with now and they say its just a cop out! They said that it is down to the insurance company to KNOW not for the poor insurees to have to prove!

I hate insurance

Post by Jopo » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:28 am

hey guys, i'm just about to start driving again (been off the road for a year and a half because i had my license revoked) and i'm looking for a 480 turbo. the best quote iv got so far is £1000 - i'm 21 and have 11 points (5 for sp30 - 91.89 mph in a 60 zone, and 6 for cd30 - undertaking some a55hole driving at 50 in the outside lane of the motorway)

the best way to lower your insurance premium is with the area you live in ...... i always put in my parent adress as they live in the sticks up near aberdeen, secondly when insuring a car in a young persons name adding 2 named drivers (which are 40+) will usually lower the premiums quite a bit. and for sum reason fully comp insurance is cheaper by about £200 a year than third party.
