Young lads are robbed in UK sadly, but its deemed they are more dangerous than their female counterparts (I love being a gal ). Plus, at 21, he has been banned and got 9 points on his licence already, so IMHO he is lucky to have had such a good quote on a turbo!!aibast wrote:eeehm to but in £ the first insurance for my old 115kw 740 turbo, my second car and had been driving for 1,5 years. Re: I hate insurance
Which means that if your car gets damaged, stolen or anything whilst parked outside your address, the insurance company will laugh at you and send you packing when they find that the car resides overnight at a location different to the one you put down.Jopo wrote:the best way to lower your insurance premium is with the area you live in ...... i always put in my parent adress as they live in the sticks up near aberdeen...
This is more of a myth, for me it's only actually worked on the car I'm currently driving, and only then to the tune of a few £s a month.Jopo wrote:...secondly when insuring a car in a young persons name adding 2 named drivers (which are 40+) will usually lower the premiums quite a bit. and for sum reason fully comp insurance is cheaper by about £200 a year than third party.
I've insured 10 cars in my lifetime so I'd say 1 in 10 is less than usually. Depends on the insurer I suppose.
Neither is there much point in fully comprehensive for a driver under 25; until you're that old, you can't drive other cars anyway.
It's debatable. Would you suppose an 80 year old would do 90mph in a 60?aibast wrote:well, I think that over 80 year old people behind a wheel are more danger than young people.
That said, the 80 year old may not take the risks but their much slower reaction time does make them a problem in a think-fast-or-crash situation.

lol. The point of fully comp is that you get YOUR car repaired/replaced if you crash, not just whoever you crash into. Its not just so you can drive other cars! Theres plenty of policys that are fully comp but don't have the other cars clause.
The best way to get cheap insurance is to drive something slow as hell for 3-4 years. You might actually live to 25 then.
I insured my 480 Turbo at 21 for a fairly decent price - around 600 fully comp, because i'd earned 3 years no claims.
I had to wait til i was 25 to make insuring a skyline realistic. Its 400bhp - if i'd had that when i was 17 i'd be dead. No question.

£620 fully comp for a 22y/o driving a 2.0 ES. First year of owning a car but I got a years NCB from being a named driver with the same insurers previously. Its a 10 mnth NCB builder policy. It doesn't seem too bad for a 2.0 petrol really, it was only about £50 diffrent between that and a 1.2 clio.
Yes, this is true, but most 17-20 year olds are driving fairly knackered, worthless cars where any kind of accident is more likely to write it off than cause repairable damage, so they wouldn't really see the benefit.JohnTurbo wrote:lol. In my experience it's always been slightly more expensive, and not really worth it. Even my current car is valued at about £900, so any kind of smallish shunt would effectively turn it into scrap.

Re: .
It didnt for me when I had the ES, but as soon as I got the GT, it was was cheaper fully comp than TPFT, and its the same with the Jaguar too. Apparently the more performance or rare the car is the more likely it is to be cheaper fully comp. Wierd, but so is everything in the insurance world lol!ted clutch wrote:third party fire theft quoted more than full comp on mine.who would have thunk that.they said it was loss of discounts not available on tpft.

Well that's worth knowing. I may have to phone up Tesco and see what my quote is fully comprehensive. I have a 3.0 24v to play with, so hopefully it'll be cheaper!
Did it work with the Jag Esta?

im 22 and mines £900 fully comp with 1years no claims.
I almost got ripped off when i insured it. My first insurance messed up some details after id sorted out a policy, mainly about my job, i phoned them up to put things right and they said id have to pay an extra £550! it was unbelievable! just cos of my JOB! i ended up cancelling and gettin a new policy with someone else.
Why should your job factor into anything?

Thats irrelevant though isnt it because the insurance company think you live at your parents therefore will just presume you are staying at the address where the car was stolen!Which means that if your car gets damaged, stolen or anything whilst parked outside your address, the insurance company will laugh at you and send you packing when they find that the car resides overnight at a location different to the one you put down.
They would hardly investigate too much into a claim on a 480, whats it gunna be worth list price?! £1k max!
