difference between 2.ol and 1.7turbo

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

difference between 2.ol and 1.7turbo

Post by benwalllker » Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:27 pm

i know the 1.7 is quicker and all that but is it better on fuel economy? with it being a smaller engine and everything. i would imagine if your running it carfully so the turbo isnt kickin in it would be better on the old money pocket. anyone any wiser?

2ltr is best on juice then the 1.7na and the turbo comes in last. I have had all 3 so speak with experience. With a few cheap mods a 2ltr will be fater than a standard turbo as the 2ltr has been strangled through the exhaust system.

do the exhaust yourself :) Cheapest option. Also the turbo I think is restrictive on the exhaust side.
1996 850R 2.0 T5 - "Beebi R"
1994 480 Turbo - RichMod - sold to get the R
1992 850 2,5 20V - sold to get the R
1987 744 TIC - Haas Tuning - totaled by BMW
1973 142 GL B20E - sold

the restriction on the 2ltr isnt the main exhaust but on the manifold. changing the main exhaust wont make any difference in performance well not unless you want to loose mpg anyway

Is the restriction of the manifold due to the welds then? You just have to dremel the hell out of it or..? If that's the case I will give it a try and replace the cat for a lenght of tubing while I'm at it. My 480 is from nov.'92, then there is no need for a 4way measurement of exhaust gasses so it won't be noticed at the dutch apk(mot)

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)
