Lulas restoration...a temporary good-bye

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

My car of choice in this situation is a Renault 5! Many fond memories of these cars. Getting a bit rare now. Maybe i'm partly to blame for that. My last one was a 1.4glsomething. Sorted out the valve clearances and it ran sweet! Handbrakes always work well. Made a quality 'induction kit' with some 4" ducting from the carb to where the grille was. And a flame paint job.

I think people are missing the point...

I WAS NOT AFTER A CHEAP RUN AROUND WHILE I DID LULA UP!!

The thing is, I have been given a Jag which is the car I yearn after. I now have it, and my only options are 1. put lula away, 2. sell her.

In this current climate I will get naff all for her, and my hobbies include working on cars, so it makes sense to keep her.

I am only taking her off the road as I now have a dream car. I am NOT taking her off the road to do her up, if I were then yes i would have bought some dog-bag (tho NOT a saxo, at the end of the day i do still have to be seen in the car!) and i do have some pride!! In fact I would have bought another of the later Rover 400 series, non K-series engine, as when I had one it had fab fuel consumption and was basic but comfy, all what you need in a cheap runaround.

BUT IM NOT AFTER A CHEAP RUNAROUND!! Please dont miss the point of why she is coming off the road!!

I know what you mean about strange looks. I was in a Rover 825 Sterling when I was 20. Apart from being a Rover, seeing a young chap getting out of such a large car caused a few double takes.

Enjoy the Jag, I've always loved XJ6s.

Thats kind, thank Yossarian ;) I love the XJ6s as well, and most people dont so its nice to find another fan! Those Rover Sterlings are LUSH arent they?!?! My Dad had one for a while, and I was desperate to buy it off him when he sold it, but I had only just passed my test and I couldnt get anyone to insure a newbie on a 2.5l engine for a reasonable price lol! Tho looking back, the best quotes I got were about £1500, which when you compare to what some young lads pay now for 1.2s and 1.4s (like, over £2k!!) I realise how good a quote that was!!

You have great taste in cars!

I dont think they can believe it lol! I am waiting till its on the road and going to count the number of times I get pulled by the police. A young girl in a Jag in the area I live is RARE! The Jag drivers in my area are either pimps or drug dealers lol!! And I look even younger than I am so I suspect they will be checking that it DOES belong to me!! ;) I cant wait!! :hopping:
You're funny! Dress up trashy and have fun while being pulled over! :D

But serious, the Jag is a great car. You are gonna have a great time driving it. I know my 480 would go if someone gave me an XJ6!

That's a first time ever .

Here was the beast, if it had been an 827 without the K Series I'd still have it now! Cost me £72 a month to insure with 2 years NCB. It was good to have 175bhp at such a young age, and importantly, it was quite controllable, being attached to such a large body.

I do love my large saloons, and the old shape XJ6s (and, of course, XJSs) fit the bill perfectly. I also tend to like cars which rot/are money pits, so the older Jags tend to tick those boxes too .

Importantly, it's RWD, so the next time it snows, get yourself to an empty carpark and enjoy being able to get the tail out without needing the handbrake :P.

Very nice! So clean and pretty! It is a shame about the damned K-series tho! I agree that 175bhp at that age is fab in such a great car! I have never understood why these kids buy Saxos and then spend hundreds "remapping" them-do they not understand that if they had just put all the money aside they could have bought something much better for standard?! I guess its an insurance dodger, I only know of one person who has ever admitted to mods to their ins. company!

Anyway, the old Jags rock! There is something so retro and, dare I say, "old school" about the old XJ6s! And yes as you know the XJS IS my most fav of them all!

And like you said RWD!! I cant wait to play in the snow! Shes off the road at the mo so I couldnt take her on the road this snow and on Friday when we got sent home early I could have had the whole of JLRs car park, but somehow I imagine Site Services and Security would make sure I got at least a warning for doing doughnuts in their carparks lol! Thing about snow is, apart from being EVEN MORE FUN (!) is that its also saving your tyres!! ;)

If you do doughnuts in the Jag plant car park in a Jag... you get a
special badge or something... surely...

I think not old boy i have first dibs on jt's 480

Back on topic though. If you are serious about stripping all the way back for the blasting and coating use stadco who are only over in coventry and do work for loads of people. But as trade is quite at the moment you should get a nice price.

Any pics of the jag????

That is a great looking car Esta. You're invited over here to impress my neighbours.
I tell you a straight six is addictive, they run so smooth, you'll never apprediate a 4-cylinder anymore.
It probably has an automatic gearbox?
If you have it post more pics!

Aw thanks Van! :) I would love to come over some time lol, I think the drive would be great fun!

The straight-6 is sweeeet! And such a nice change from the V-6s being put in everything these days.

She is automatic as well (but she has a sport button! ;) ) These can really shift when they want too!

I sadly have no more pics at the mo as she is at work and cameras are banned at work. When she is on the road I will post up some more pics lol! :hopping:
