Paint suppliers

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Paint suppliers

Hello.
Can anyone suggest the best place to get paint from for my 480?

I will be getting the door, wing and sill resprayed but would like to get the paint myself first to keep costs down.

Also how easy/hard will it be to get a good match :?

Cheers ;)

I get all my paints from a local place "Jawel Paints" They may have branches your way, not too sure :dunno: I would avoid halfords anyway, their cans are rubbish and weak mixture.

As for matching, it shouldnt be too bad, its reds that tend to fade the most. Although it may need to be mopped to match as no doubt some fade may have happened. But if you are taking it to a paint shop then they will make sure it all matches so no worries there! :)

avoid jewel paints they sell on ebay. Their paint and matching facilities are some of the worst in the industry. Try and find a standox dealer as their paint is very good. I know this as i deliver paint to the industry and some of the industrial handpaints i deliver are better quality then jewel automotive finish paints!!!

If you are going to get your parts sprayed professionally they pay the extra and let them get the paint. Reason being that if they get it it wrong it is their fault not yours

Sorry Rachel, I have had no problems and their colour matching for me has been second to non, plus they supply JLR a lot of paint apprently, so i thought it was a sure bet. :dunno:

i deliver the paint to all the carf manufacters including estas favourite jag. To name just a few others aston martin, bmw mini, honda, nissan and the list goes on.

what i find funny is when i speak to bodyshops and tell the i have had 4 different shades of paris blue and non of them match they all say that was jewel by anychance was it. I went to a standox dealer (we deliver that to) gave him the same part to shade match and hey presto 6 colours and perfect match.

I had to get an audi silver for the wheels jewel say impossible to get even though i had the code!! wend to GES in birmingham (standox dealer) bit more expensive but he says give me a minute come out with the manufactures book and hey presto under wheel colour there it was with the layer code and recommend laquer and additives.

I had around 10 tins of jewels and non matched. included porche jungle green which was don at a bodyshop and not me. jewels are fine for spirits and supplies but would only trust the paint on a complete repray.

Another good one is national or international paints.

Also remember if its wrong you still have to pay. I could have had my car professionally painted for what it cost me in jewel paint.

Cheers lee. Like you said, if I need to get the panels resprayed then I will leave it up to the company I deal with to match it! Sounds far to easy to get it wrong to me...and on a 14 year old car, just the code might not be enough.
